Aifos is the only one owned by the Spanish Navy. H.M. Juan Carlos skippers Bribon, but apparently isnt the owner. The other 3 (not counting the one being built) are privately owned and/or sponsored by someone.

Just raced over the weekend with a local PHRF handicapper and IRC measurer and a TP 52 owner on a Mumm. After the race we all talked about the TP 52 and how well it rates under IRC. No mods necessary - the TP 52 rate better under IRC than they do under PHRF (and needless to say under the old IMS). However let us remember that the TP 52's prefer to race in class and only do Handicap when not enough boats want to do a specific event.

Frank smaller yachts can be safer and they also can be more dangerous - it all depends on the boat and the body of water it is used on. While your pocket motor sailor may be able to make for a greater number of ports it is far less safe on an open ocean than the TP 52 which is designed, crewed, and provisioned to race in the nasty stuff. This does not make one vessel superior to the other it just means that they where designed for very different uses.

Mac 26 - Pocket motor cruiser
Pros - Small, trailer able, limited but fair accommodations, large motor, shallow draft, easy to sail (at
100% of potential).
Cons - Limited sailing power (trade off), light displacement (even with water ballast in) means
excessive leeway, potentially dangerous with out water ballast in place.

Sail Rating = 3 average for hybrid
Motor Rating = 6+ above average for a sail boat (Mid powerboat range)

TP 52 - Grand Prix racing yacht
Pros - Light weight, carbon construction, high performance, simple design, tight class racing, faster than
70 + ft racing yachts. Class controlled internally (not designer, builder, or sail maker controlled) designed
for both buoys and offshore distance races.
Cons - No second life potential as a cruiser race (in all fairness it was never designed to cruise).
Expensive and complicated to campaign (but no more so than any other GP boat). Not easy to sail to full
potential - profesional top sailors required.

Sail Rating = 9+ top end racing yacht
Motor Rating = 5 average for a racing yacht (7.5 kts under power)

i was thinking about this and i think that if you filled both boats with water and/or inverted them, then the safety level would finally come even. But while they are upright and above water then a TP52 is more stable and safer.

As for the your abuse of the Internet not costing the state of Wshington anything, I guess your are right it is costing the tax payers money. You posting during business hours however is costing the state money. You are fraudulently billing hours for time you spend on the Internet at boat design. The amount you post on the Internet means you are not spending time focusing on quality work. ....studies have shown that Internet trolling reduces productivity by 25%.

Boating under the influence should not be enough to flip a 26-foot sailboat. I smell a design flaw.
We had one like this in Okanagan a few months ago. A houseboat of about 30something feet LOA as I recall. Rated for 35 people I think, were 65 or so on board. All up top. The driver (clearly not competent enough to call him skipper or captain) was told by several boaters that he was overloaded; he ignored them, the boat capsized. One death as i recall. Bottom line: Be smart, know what your craft can and can't do.

Be smart - look at a mini transat. The 26x is of mini design. Be stupid and defend the drunk with a prior fellony conviction like Jim Teeters did. Follow his principles and be even more of a fool than he.
