Does this software use c splines or b splines?

This software has export to IGES it means you can import surface(not just set of lines) into most of the CAD systems.
Shape maker is more sutable for initial design and for production lines fairing. Almost 90% of the vessels, which is comes to production on Norwegian shipyards have surface made in Shape Maker or previouse relise call SeaSolution.

In some cases it is more complicated to learn it youself, just becouse of less documentation and training materials. But finally, you will be able to make surface like you want, not like software can propose. I have many customers, who send me Rhino files for check surface and I almost (exept some very simple) newer seen surface, wich is not possible to improve for production.

MSI is not probably properly promote this product, but so far you can download software and try it.

My previous employer worked on an norweigan yacht made by Ulstein group.
Can you tell me the cost of it or we should disscus on private mail?

This software use B-Splines. Splines has to many limitations.

The yacht was probably Marinteknikk design.

Probably, like any other software, Rhino is very good for many things and not so good for others. On larger ships, more complete solutions are likely to be sought, not better, but more complete.
In a big boat you have to do so many things that a cheap solution can not achieve them. Then you start buying plug-ins, plug-ins, .... All are very cheap but the whole is not so cheap, the coordination between them is not perfect so you start to think that the best thing would have been to buy a package that will solve everything from the beginning. And if you think about the structure, the plans for the workshop, the habilitation, the electrical installation, the pipelines, ... maybe you will rethink to buy cheap partial solutions. An "expensive" solution can be very cheap if used properly.

Exactly! Totally agree. Some times plug-ins solve just part of the problem, but finally may cost lot more than Rhino. Best solution - to combine different software for more efficiency. Some of my customers do hull in SM and superstructures details in Rhino, some try to make everything in SM. It's OK. We can transfer files back and forward. And for my opinion Rhino is fantastic tool for converting geometry between different file formats. I don't know any other software with such rich converting functionality.

For whole package from begining of designing to the end product which is in this mater a boat, boatyards use variety of software.

Ship size, hull material ia matter. It is easy for small boat to fix problems with hull surface manually. Mistakes in hull lines fairing for big ships cost lot more and it is not so easy to fix. I sav how guys in workshop spent 4 hours to put just one shell plate on place. Fairing mistakes always create a big probles during building process.

I worked in production for 4 years, i know what most of people think that it ain't their mistake but the fairing of hull lines.
It can be really how welding on the section is done, cause when you try to build something fast that is complex the section you are building/welding the deformation is inevitable.

Rhino commands to use. Exact order for use of commands depends on the shape and input curves.

Create 4 initial boundary curves using Curve or InterpCrv
Use EdgeSrf to create intial surface
Use InsertKnot to add control points for local refinement where desired (not InsertControlPoint command)
Use FitSrf or use RemoveKnot to simplify surface
Use Patch with Starting surface option to pull the surface to the input curves
Drag and nudge control points as desired, or use MoveUVN or use SoftMove to move control points for surface refinement.
Use Smooth to smooth the surface.

    Sometimes iteration is needed.

Thank DCockey ill try it but first im fairing curves cause line plan was awful,it was all polygon and now im mixing my own shape of curves then ill try it.
It's my goal to create one surface of whole ship with flat sides also but with minimum points.

Do you use stations or just waterlines and butocks?
