Rhino Plug-In Advice Needed

I realize this is probably a rather naïve question, but what Rhino plug-ins (or other software) would one need to design a simple planning craft? I own and have been playing with Rhino for some time, and I want to design an outboard powered center consol planning skiff around 20’ – 22’ in length for inshore fishing. I am very interested in designing my own hull, something similar to a Tolman Alaskan skiff or the Classic series by Bateau.

I would like to be able to play around with different hull and v-bottom shapes, interior layouts and weight distribution scenarios for fuel tanks, bait well, consol placement, etc. So I guess I would need tools for things like hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, planning performance, power prediction. What else would I need?

Are there reasonably priced plug-ins for Rhino that would accomplish everything I would need?

Any guidance or advice would be much appreciated.

rhinomarine

is not a "magic bullet" you need to have an understanding of what the results are telling you, but in general it has what you need for design

Thanks for the response, CGN. Assuming one knows how to use it and interpret the outputs, Rhinomarine does provide all of the essential analysis tools to design a planing craft? Is it missing any key features? Does it include resistance and power prediction tools?

yes it has resistance calculation tools.. but u have to create the surface in such a way that can be read by rhinomarine.. manual will guide you more specifically

Instead of Rhinomarine I would try Orca3D. It is by the same group of people who developed RhinoMarine (they moved to a different parent company). Orca3D has better developed features. You will probably get better support from Orca3D. I used to use Rhinomarine but after the development crew left the support suffered greatly. I use Orca3D now.

Thanks for the response about Orca 3D. I would like to learn more about Orca 3D. Does it offer all of the same features as RhinoMarine? Are there any drawbacks to Orca 3D as compared to RhinoMarine?

Orca3D offers the same features of Rhinomarine plus a few extra ones. The interface is better IMO and some if not most features work better than those in RhinoMarine. We just finished upgrading from Rhinomarine to Orca3D where I work and I have not had the opportubity to explore all of its capabilities yet. We do not use the speed/power or weight/cost tracking modules (we use other software for that) so I cannot tell you how those work but I assume they would work well also.

Orca3D is a nice tool for rhino but i still prefer rhinomarine. As far as i know Orca is just for hull design and does not offer any hydrostatic nor stability calculations unlike rhinomarine.

Based on their Web site, Orca3d does have hydrostatic and stability tools. Did I misread?

You are correct, it is right there on the front page of their site. Also, since the guys who developed Orca3D are the same ones who developed Rhinomarine the interface and feature set is similar. I have used AutoShip and Rhinomarine in the past and changed to Orca3D and work with it currently. I like Orca3D better than Rhinomarine.

sorry for late.
i used both of them Rhinomarine and Orca3d . it will be better for you to understand the differences betwn them if u use their demo .
I got nearly same hydrostatics result that i get using rhinomarine and Hydromax calculation. but i get many difference in result for orca 3d.
Rhinomarine gives you two types of output. as *html and Excel sheet format. in the excel sheet, it will produce Values with corresponding excel graph . And every curve is in different worksheet ..
moreover, i found rhinomarine is easier to use and user friendly.
