In serial, right from genset or batteries, or both directly to the electric motor....no transmission needed. ALL those big famous companies arent going electric because it doesnt make sense, but becauae it does. If youre not aware of tons of research, tons of lit over many years, thats your problem. Study up..

My OP mentioned a 63'one that is a fish boat, not just for harbours. All the big european builders are building fishing and other boats in hybrid, as do the long distance yacht makers. It seems many american arent familiar with this though.

It works of bigger vessels that can justify the expense. For us, precise speed control was a constraint.

Update: We just received a reply from the Damen shipbuilder about their 2007. They informed us that as other naval architects have, that this boat can indeed be configured as a purely pleasure boat. In its basic configuration, the price is about 3.5 - 4 million Euros. (note that the Seaton 60 is also about the same price). They just factor in, or out whatever changes are necessary, or desired. For example, all that fishing related equipment like ice machines isnt needed, nor the massive crane.
Thus its a doable project for those who like industrial style boats.

Well, glad you got a price.

To answer the earlier observation, usa fishing fleets only adopted it when heavily subsidized. Our nations fisheries rely very little on subsidy, mainly due to America not eating much fish. One of the thing that blows me away when talking to fisherman from other developed countries is how much subsidy they have received over the last couple decades.

Heck most those guys will move heaven and earth to avoid tier 3 compliance, willingly adopting hybrid is gonna be a stretch.

Comfisherman. Thanks for the info about the US fishing situation, but that is a different topic. This boat isnt made in the US, nor will be registered there. And the price of an american made Wahl 'famous 58' boat, is about the same price, new. I think they have a 600hp motor.

Yeah 2.6 is the bare bones version. Most finish near enough to 3. Hard to track what came std but the 26s were mostly 19 liter cummins. Local guy went cat and then Mitsubishi on the 28.5. Seems like the last few have been Mitsubishi. It's Wahl, it's whatever is the absolute cheapest unless buyer specifies something.

They are as infamous as they are famous up here. Local joint has a drink that's lots of ice with some kind of hard alcohol in it, in a giant bowl.... called a Wahl on the rocks. Lord knows most the first dozen have done the same at least once, some 3 or 4 times. Only the capn Andrew and kodiak aisle were lost. The patch them up realign the engines and off they go.

If Google finds it, the van peer chasina bay was about as close as I can think in recent memory. Dunno it's current name but it's about what your descibing.
