As of now the Ultime Sodebo(24kts) is opening up her lead over the new Macif(20kts) with her lifting foils.
And The Boss still leads the IMOCAS....
Just now the IMOCA leader is 2knots faster than the Multi 50 leader.....

    Keeping it safe with lobster...

In animal's world it is called "overbred"... you think the boats are over-sophisticated ?

As already mentioned I suppose the preperations didnt go well for many. Lack of time to learn the boat in details.

That remembers me Skip Novack ! He is a very well experienced racer (5 times round the world circumnavigations)... he keeps everything simply on the boats, in a very conservatively "old fashion" way. - A wonderful teaching how racing skippers + cruisers should handle their boats by manoevering and equipment is demonstrated within a series (12 parts) produced by Yachting World front the coast of legendary "Cape Horn" ... one can watch on Youtube:

I suppose Alex will hit the gas pedal next days... he is very aware of the risks to sail a 9 days old boat, as mentioned by him in an interview. He keeps everything on the safe side now.

As soon the weather conditions clear up after the deep depression has moved through he will get more confidence in the boat and understand from mile to mile the limits and potentials...

... and Alex (as many other skippers) sees the TJV as another "training unit" for the Vende Globe which is more significant for him... and more relevant for the sponsors.
Thomas plans to sail the boat single handed back from Brazil to UK. He wont take the risk to loose a 5 million US dollar expensive boat just to hunt it like crazy behind the French men, now. He will attack 2016/2017 to bring the victory home to U.K. as solo circumnavigator.

    Making it simpler to find.
Macif still behind but a full five knots faster than Sodebo right now. The Boss went the wrong way(apparently) and was just passed by a bunch of boats.
Back to the question of a Multi50 beating an IMOCA: for the second time over about 6 hours the IMOCAS are going faster than the 50' tri's.

Is it bowling or sailing ???

Seems, Macif started the "light wind Turbo Foil", hm ? Or he got the order by the team manager to keep behind Sodebo during the bad weather zone and now speed up without bigger risks for damaging the boat. Who knows what is going "behind the curtain" secretly :?:

These modern skippers are no more allowed to make their decisions alone... they have to follow the team orders of their racing directors similarly we know it from Formula 1 racing teams.

And next Trimaran gone.... dam**** Thats bowling and no more sailing. boats crash in row like falling pins. Instead of a bowl its a container and low depression wind systems.

Gilles Lamiré and Yvan Bourgnon's multi50 on the way to European coast in "slow motion"

Sadly to see that one of the giants is gone  The racer just lived 2 1/2 years...

We have seen PoB capsizing in 2014 already during her attempt to break the "Mauricienne record" from Port-Louis in Brittany (France) to Port-Louis (Mauritius). It seems the "name" didt bring luck to boat and crew

    Corley epoxy coated

They are going to attempt to recover PdB maxi 80. The team just thought it prudent to retrieve the crew with bad weather coming.

    Last view onto Trimaran PdB...

short video of the rescue mission recorded with the helmet camera of the SAR team... it doesnt seem too bad conditions, no rough sea. Hopefully the boat will survive and can be refitted. Would be a pitty to loose her.

Leading IMOCA still faster than the leading 50' Multi.

UPDATE-10/28 Wens.- The fastest IMOCA are moving 10kts faster than the fastest 50' tri's. It appears the IMOCA group must be in a different weather system.

    The Boss

According to his website Alex Thomson and crew are "hove to" trying to address problems that require immediate attention. They will see if they can do that and will proceed if at all possible.
