Low price Catamarans

I gather you are a experienced boatbuilder in the industry in Thailand or elsewhere as you seem to have a very good handle on value of boats and failure rates of builders. Interested to know how many you know that have failed in two years in Thailand?
I suggest You see my profile first... I know major builders here, as well as some loosers :)

A number of this design has been built in Australia before. This is the first in Thailand. Build is well underway at the moment.
Yes, as I see on the web http://www.catamaransailingphuket.com/photos.htm the quality of jig is very good! Let's wait for rest of boat! :D Then we can talk about quality.

I am always cautious about builders who use photos of boats not built by them on their website. Can name few of them in Thailand also :)

Builder is Composite Yachts - Swiss run. This builder has been here and in operation for some 5 years so has also survived the 2 years. He has built 6 boats so far from 30 foot to 44 foot. Current project is a protoype 11M composite and alloy power cat New Zealand design and the 38 foot A****** Cabriolet Australian design. Soon to start for a French customer a 50 foot sailing cat French design.

Sorry to say, but 'Composite Yachts' as builder is unknown whatever they have built, build or plan to build. Also search returns no website, no address... only mobile phone, same in SEAYacthing printed directory. Do You think a real company can stay only with one mobile phone and email at yahoo??? Maybe this way they have cut all office expenses, and also taxes and can build a real low-price boats? :)

Tiki/Pahi

What do you think of Nigels cat. It was the third cat built by Gunther.

I don't think that the finishing of a Wharram cat means much ; they are studied to be homebuilt and we built that Tiki at very high standard as for customer's requirements , but i don't think that make any difference , really .

But i believe that Thai plywood Kiruing should be avoided when building any wharram cat . Waay to heavy .Nigel boat is extremely heavy and i have seen many heavy Wharram cats built in this country , sailing not very well and sitting deep into the water .

This is why we built that Tiki in composite , redesigning the hull . As i said , that Tiki is not more a Wharram design as the structure and materials are very different .

It is much lighter , faster and easier to handle then an original Tiki ; but of course more expensive to build , and take more time as well .

Of course this is just an opinion , with full respect of Mr. Nutt that i don't know personally .

Regards

RB

Hello Albert,

Now I know who you are!! If you take SEA Yachting as being a conclusive guide and the be all to end marine information guide you have picked a very poor example. Poor research, outdated and incorrect information through the whole magazine and now more of the same in their spiral covered Marine Guide. One of the few good aspects of SEA Yachting is your very well written information sections - that relates to your quality work not SEA Yachting's expertise. Simply the Swiss builder has enough continuous work to keep him busy by word of mouth. He doesn't need to advertise. Its not a crime to be small and not advertise. If your customers keep coming and are happy and refer others to you. Its also not a crime to have one mobile phone - he does have a land line as well! The company is VAT registered and he doesn't build real low priced boats - he builds quality boats for a good price.
It is also not a issue to be unknown and still build boats. The people that matter in this case are the customers - they obviously know him.
To you it seems a real company must have a bunch of staff like you do and a big office on the main road and a big website.

Name a few builders in Thailand that use other peoples boat photos?. That would be interesting!

Rest of the boat is due in June. The co- designers boat is the one noted on the website "Cut Snake" He built Cut Snake and is presently building a 12.4M version due for completion around June as well in Australia. The Thai built cat and Australian built cat are on the same schedules.

Good if so, I understand some builders are happy to stay little known once they have enough job.

For me - because I have to advise the builder to our customers sometimes - it seems suspicious to deal with builder that does not have office, real estate investments, assets, etc. This makes this kind of builder look unstable, but there are exclusions from this rule.

Hey, I don't want they shoot me tomorrow! ;)
I can only to say they are not our customers.

name the loosers
I will, but only in private conversation when customer is asking for my advice.

Exactly what I mean: make a boat in Thailand first, means nothing have built many in another country.

Fair enough never really expected you to name them in public. I know there are a good selection and that you being a NA would have had plenty of opportunity to meet many of them. The builders grapevine works well enough anyway.

Fair enough comment. I know the builder - that being the case am very confident it will all happen OK. Time will tell!

In those pictures seems to be Paul West... or I am wrong? He came back to work here after few months in Phuket....

By the way are you a partner, a client, a broker, just a friend of those builders or the Phuket City Mayor? how to justify such great promotion about Phuket boat builders?

The person in the photo is Roger the owner. He is hands on with his crew. Dont know a Paul West.
