Not something you'd want to go through too often, Hoyt, I hope it turns out not too bad for you.

Glad you're still around Hoyt; any signs from PAR yet?

Storm passing by now. Winds should drop to safe driving conditions by 2pm. Then we head home. PAR, where are you?

My town is without power, maybe for a couple of weeks. My street had no flooding so far as I know. Lost some banana plants. Lines and power poles are down. Teotwawki stayed put chained to fence. Now to get the skiff home and refitted. Will check on Yobarnacle now.

Loss of perishable food and general conveniences from power outages is an issue that affects vast numbers of householders and businesses. You really ought to have a good generator and fuel when living in this kind of area, to maintain some independence.

We are back home. We have power. We had no flooding. No other damage than we lost our entire crop of bananas. We do not know how long power was out so composted everything that wasn't frozen solid. Yobarnacle is wet but okay.

A lot of people still have no power. Driving home we saw snapped poles and trees fallen against power lines. We were very fortunate.

Yes, we have no bananas ? Good to see it was not as bad as anticipated over there, you do get the feeling the authorities are given to a little bit of "crying wolf" these days. Better to be safe than sorry, I guess. What kind of banana is that , over here it not allowable to grow bananas of the main commercial variety, known as "Cavendish" because it is susceptible to diseases that might spread, if not quickly identified.

No after storm sign of PAR yet, his last post on these forums so far was last Sunday in post #417 on this thread.

I hope he's only out of internet, as he'd used to be pretty self sufficient with power, but a tree could have crashed into the genset shed or so.

So maybe he's just cleaning out his place from fallen trees, and so I hope he's OK and we hear from him soon.

    All the best Paul !

We dumped out everything in the fridge that was not frozen. We will have to replace a few items such as milk, eggs and cheese. Freezer never thawed. The power wasn't out long enough to harm the freezer content.
