I wouldn't sheath it, but just make a new helm box from fabrics. You can use foam to make fancy shapes and contours, because it's so easily worked into shape, cover this with a wax or protective plastic and just lay over it or simply include the foam in the helm box.

Too soon for humor but I smiled at the Johnny Rocco reference.

The eye of Irma is projected to pass a few kilometers west of the Nature Coast aimed at Tallahassee.

Where'd you end up Hoyt? I've just talked to some friends on Marco and it's bad.

If the stilties are still standing in the Gulf I will send photos. I am not entirely sure my house will still be on the up side of the sea wall. I should know by tomorrow night if we can get back. We are 200 miles north right now, waiting for a chance to return. We are directly in Irma's path here in Tallahassee. You can run but you can't hide. Paul, you also battened down, I hope. I can see on radar your area is gettin' a whuppin. Tornados are the big threat other than flooding.

It's just really beginning to fire up here Hoyt. My little weather station on the chimney shows SCA's are up and occasional gusts into the mid 30's. It'll be some hours before the worst gets here, but I'm ready as I can be. The house and shop are tight, though falling trees are a concern, the same with the multiple fence lines. I can't get through to friends in Everglades City, I think they're under water right now.

The eye is projected to pass within a mile of my house.

Update. It didn't. It moved well east of us.

Here is a screen shot of Hudson taken a moment ago. The dotted line is the eye path projection from The Weather Channel. Screenshot_20170910-172909.png

The storm is weakening but still too dangerous for travel.
