Hello, I recently finished building a Rascal runabout. It is a cold molded design, mine is planked in mahogany and maple. The engine is a restored 1961 Mercury 800 Full Gear Shift, spinning a 14" x 22" chopper prop. The anti-vent plate is 4" above keel, with 6" of setback from the CMC tilt trim unit.

Top speed so far is 52.7mph at 5300 rpm.

This design has been mentioned in posts as a suggestion for someone interested in building a runabout and I hope these videos provide inspiration.

Although I've never really participated in this forum, I lurked almost every day and did gain inspiration from various builds (thanks UCB4UME!). I hope these videos inspire someone to build a boat. This was my first boat build and although it took about 5 years and was a challenge at times, it is possible!

Hope you enjoy!

Pete

Great Job Pete.

What a headturner!!!

P.S. how did you do the speedometer graphic overlay on your second video?!

Your link is not working pete.
See if you can view the videos in the first post now - there should be two youtube videos inline.

(There was an extra "watch?v=" within the youtube tag in the first post which I've removed now. It didn't seem to cause an issue with firefox, but it probably causes an issue with some browsers or possibly depending on the geographic youtube server it is pulled from. Just in case, here are links to the first video and the second video )

Welcome to the forum Pete and thanks very much for sharing your project here.

Excellent . Thanks for that.

Hi Brendan thank you for the kind words; and thank you to the Moderator for fixing the video links. I didn't realize they didn't work, sorry about that.

Hi Grey Ghost, thanks! The camera used was a Sony Action Cam (Sony's version of the GoPro). It has the ability to record GPS data which is extracted upon upload to the computer. The accompanying software will display the data if desired. It's a pretty neat function and keeps everyone honest about speeds, etc. :D

Glad you enjoyed the videos,

Pete
