hi all.

I’m designing a 23’ Crabbing boat for the Chesapeake. Basically old school on the drawing board. It will have a small flare up forward.

Question:
Where does the maximum flare occur longitudinally?

Thanks!
Robb

There is no set rule. It is up to the preference of the designer/builder, and will also depend on the desired overall shape of the bow.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for being so vague, but it makes sense

If you are designing something similar to traditional boats, the maximum flare is pretty far forward. I would say between 10-20% of the length back from the bow.
