just so it's decent quality and easy to smear. I'm only expecting to use like a cauchgun place a beed then trowl w/ like a bondo splachteler.

please send links of you'r expert suggestion .

remember I've never stripped enamel paint from a aluminum substrate.

so need you sort from best to wrst pro/con ect.

I definitely won't be using any aircraft paint remover those people that where killed
must have had little to none ventilation.

I did see evidence of the garage it didn't appear to be ventilated. it's sad when people ignore safety guidelines when using powerful chemicals.

edit: I have the process listed grind got that, step 2 clean can I clean w/ mineral spirits then prime? I was intending on doing star side just top of outside cabin/exposed rear transome skin then third stage/rear wall/door/inside gunwhales.

the primary objective is cover the exposed transome skin where I covered the sterndrive holes and added brackets for trim tabs/transducer.

I purchased the quart size of primer from jamestown distribetors for aluimiun hulls below water.TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat Epoxy Primer https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/product.do?part=498239&engine=adwords&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImuKQ_YSj2gIV3rfACh359gZZEAQYASABEgI5XPD_BwE so transome gets done then the rest also has hierarchy.

painting vinyl I believe won't require any priming correct?

Update used a abrasive wheel to remove old paint, used utility knife to cut and scrape out old glue out of seams.

I was planning to do another lite scrub of bare aluminum w/ scotbrite green pad prior to finale clean w/ acetone then prime.

Not sure how to duplicate the Chieftain22 maybe tracing paper? I know a Guy that can duplicate sticker on vinyle but he needs the orginale.I will trace then cutout w/ exacto knife for stencil.

can I scuff the orginal unpainted aluminum w/ green scotbrite pad the wheel was to abrasive.
edit" the primer I have has a 5 hour pot life and aluminum must be covered w/in 30 minutes of finale scuff/clean a so I need to have alot of aluminum prepared ahead of time.
    Thanks for any tips

some of the larger sign people should be able to use a photograph taken with an i-phone, scan it, make a cut file for their vinyl cutter, phone around.

Update smeared new glue on seams.took my time ozzied small managable blob.
5200 glue fully cures in 7 days.
?1.must I wait the full 7 days to primer? my desired paint weather is turning to winter.

my cabin door has 4 seams. I'm leaning toward JB cold weld because I can grind smooth then continue w/ prime.
what do you Guy's think TB

I am thinking that JB Cold will be too stiff and not flex with the hull, You should use a flexible joint sealer

Under extreme conditions of rocking I have observed the hardtop flexing. however I'm thinking the door should be as solid as possible, the hinge's looseness acts as a absorber for flexing.
think I'll start primer and exclude painting primer over glue just primer the metal. I'm thinking the prime job needs a few coats before top coat?

I would like a rubber grometi where the rail enters the cabin.

Specks of dirt in the bead of glue ? Worse things can happen ! When I was a kid, there were "fly tapes" hanging from the kitchen ceiling, covered in summer flies. We survived the unsightliness of it without permanent harm to the psyche. :D

Having the swirl marks show though the primer depends on the exact primer, how it's applied and how aggressive you were with the grinder, but...

Most of the time swirl marks from a grinder do show through, a light sanding of the primer can remove them though.

I purchased the quart size of primer from jamestown distributors for aluminum hulls below waterlevel this stuff TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat Epoxy Primer https://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/product.do?part=498239&engine=adwords&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImuKQ_YSj2gIV3rfACh359gZZEAQYASABEgI5XPD_BwE

barely applied pressure w/grinder. will green scotch brite pad minimize swirls?

I'm curious why jamestown primer specs. say 4-5 coats? I was planning just one, applied w/ brush.
    thanks TB

    update on the swirl marks.
I have green scotbright pads but can't find them so I used a kitchen scrub sponge and was able to significantly reduce the swirl marks.
can I step up to the red scotbright pad to further reduce the swirls?

is TotalBoat Aluminum Etch Wash basically acetone?

I attempted to trace the decal but the plastic I used was a little flimsy when I attempted to transfer w/ exacto razor knife to a cardboard for stencil.
next I'll attempt to use butchers paper w/ a gravestone pencil rub, this decal maybe hard to duplicate so any suggestions would be a huge help.

change of plan .I will not paint exterior cabin, will vinyl wrap in black carbon fiber ricer style. metal is almost ready for final clean & 2 days of warm 70* temps. to apply and let vinyl cure,so I"ll be waiting on warm 70* .

the first panel to be covered is 23"x5' then stripes for roof folded under at front.

should the bare exposed metal be primed before applying vinyl wrap?
