I have produced a prototype inboard boat with a stepped hull and when on plane the boat wants to list to one side or the other, affecting the tracking, are there any suggestions on how to fix this problem? thank you in advance for any assistance.

Hello Ryon,

Can you provide more info eg

weight, power, speeds where problem occurs, deadrise of foreboby and afterbody, major boat dimensions and a sketch showing approximates surfaces in contact with water when problem occurs. Is the step transverse or swept back? If you can provide trim angle of keel when problem occurs then that would also help.

nevd,

The length is 22.5 feet, the step sweeps forward , there is a pad along the keel for uninterrupted water flow to the prop, the weight is approximately 3300 lbs, problem occurs at speeds of 20 -35, at speed the trim angle is approximately 3 degrees.

Thanks, Ryon

Stepped hull listing

Ron,

If you have swept your step forwards as you go from keel to chine, this is likely to be the problem. If the step at the chine comes out of water when or just before the listing starts, you will be spraying the bottom of the afterbody.

There may also be other problems, so a sketch would be useful. If it helps, send me a private message.

Regards,

nevd
