Considereing all the really negative opinions on site it probably is a lot better then that especially considering the price. If the rig turns out all that bad can it be retrofited as a low aspect twin masted boat or sloop? Where ever you go with that rig you will have some lively disscussions at the bar.

Definitely an interesting rig. The only additional observations would be

    1. All those extra aft poles & cables = drag, so don't expect it to sail as fast as a racing rig.

    2. Keel seems a bit heavy (4 tons?). I suspect it's needed to keep her steady in the wind with such a narrow hull & extra rigging.

Do get a survey before buying it and have a local sailing expert (e.g. yacht racer) join you in the sea trial. If the guest skipper & surveyor feel it's a good boat then you have a unique wind beast on your hands.

Oh, and you should ask the surveyor to do a hull inspection (e.g. boat lift). Take some photos. You'll get more feedback on how it might perform.

You could stretch a nice hammock between the aft masts, and perhaps steer with your toe. Now that's a plus :D

Found here an article about a somewhat similar Delta Rig . . . . (German link, but more English articles there)

Hey !! waite just one minute. The rig that is illustrated in Hoyts article is professionally conceived. The mainsail has full battens so that its foil shape is maintained thru a wide range of wind angles.

The Apocalyptic beast has a loose sail . Its only effective as a sun awning .

In the specs it is stated "Kevlar" in the hull laminate. Kevlar wicks water. Be very careful when purchasing an old kevlar race boat.

That's Port Orchard, looking WNW toward the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton and the Olympic Mountains beyond.

So guys... listen. I really need help. I was trying to buy the Cosmic Muffin http://yachtsoffered.com/printListing.cfm?Yachts__Listingid=1291760&returntype=3 - internally transferable water ballast on top of lead ballast - ... seriously, I thought it was the coolest boat I've seen. I love UNIQUE anythings.. (You ought to see the girls I date..) I don't want a Catalina that everyone else has...

I'm a fairly novice sailor and I should never buy this, but hell I may! :) SOMEONE HELP ME. Seriously, the guy sold the muffin to someone with more experience, and there 'seemed' to be some level of shadiness going on, he didn't want an out of the water survey.... anyways, still reeling from losing that unique boat. Now I find this. Could anything good be made from this?

Check the hull and if OK, buy and try if you like the rig . . . . see post#17

BTW, here's another related thread - Aftmast rigs ???

Hold on now--this thing was listed as shallow draft--doesn't look too shallow to me- thats one hunk of appendage under that waterline. It certainly is different and i'm torturing my brain as to why other than a setup that is hinged for ease of lowering to get under bridges. Oh well as i've said before different strokes for different folks. The hammick idea ia a plus ;)

Shallow is subjective, the objective number from the ad is 5ft (1.52 m).

    ‘‘ 47'x9.5'x5.0' long, narrow, shallow draft ’’

So it does --looks alot more but cameras do lie. Based on those figures which for some reason i didn't see or skimmed over it is shallow-my 30footer build is approx. 3 1/2 ft. so based on that it is shallow. The more i look at that beast the stranger it looks however doesn't mean it's a bad performer just different.

Or the specs in the ad lie . . . . you never know until measured or seen IRL
