That thing looks like quite the machine. That A frame mast with what looks like one big mother of a low aspect ratio furling jib as the only sail should be a very reasonable sailer. Sort of on the lines of a lateen set up as on the arab dows in the Med. Very interesting craft and from the construction material specs. very well built. Would like to see the stability specs., I'm always leary of shallow draft sailers. Anyhow thats my first impressions for what it's worth ---Geo.
P.s. Man that guy in there looks like my Uncle Albert -- He's looking good for a guy thats been dead for some 30yrs. past --he was quite the boat builder also--

Actually the hull looks like a west coast sled. ULDB. long , thin and fast. Not bad.

But the rigging and deck has been bastardized. Poor thing looks sad.

Michael, I know you're highly qualified but why would you give that advise without looking over the specs on the machine. A non traditional approach to the rigging doesn't mean it's not a good performer. My only concern and this is just one of my pet peaves re sailing craft is she is shoal draft which is always a bit of a trade off re stability. Once that was satisfied I would have no quams about putting her thru her paces. --Geo.

I seriously question the rig's suitability for high winds.

How do you reef? Furling the sail shifts the CE forward, i.e. lee helm.

on edit: The second photo helps. With a staysail, it's not as bad as I thought but still, adjusting the sail area radically changes the CE.

Apparently the boat made the trip from Port Orchard, WA to San Fransisco, so it' can't be completely unsuited, right?

And look at the massive cutouts in the foredeck ! YIKES, think you can open them at sea ? Whats hidden under them ? surface to air missiles? Hot air balloon escape capsule ?
And whats the story with the pair of huge anchor winches What do they do ?


Its a shame its so apocalyptic because it looks to be a very nice hull form.

Dont ever get sucker punched into this A frame sailing rig mumbo jumbo on a mono hull. Perhaps a multi with its huge beam for proper sheet leads, but not a mono.
