Cracked hull/accident please help

I have a question for you gentlemen.

I used almost 2 spray cans shooting the bottom. This was urethane single stage paint. Bottom can still use paint to look better.

Could I sand 600 then shoot with water based paint and then shoot clear urethane over that to protect it? Reason is water based paint I can get at HomeDepot is much cheaper if works....I am going to buy a siphon gun and shoot it...

Aerosol paint cans isn't the best stuff in the world to use, but if you must, lots of coats to get film thickness. It can usually be buffed to remove over spray and stipple.

If you're going to spray, then you have a lot of choices. Spraying is more about prep and equipment/facilities than anything else. I wouldn't invest in these setups, unless you can justify the costs (you'll be spraying lots of stuff). Water based is coming on line in most industries, but familiarity is key. These systems aren't the easiest to learn how to do well.

The sprayer (husky) was $45.. I can do this in my garage, I wont spend much more money than needed and it is going to be used for this job mainly.

Aerosol can I had made at the auto paint store, cost $50 for two 11 oz can. I can get a quart of water based for $12 and shoot a urethane clear over it. Is this doable? Meaning could I spray water based paint over urethane based paint that I already have on the ski?

Now you have come to the difficult bit. Belnding in the top coat is the problem. The base coat should be compounded clean if you going to try to blend it in . Some people mask around a small patch and put up with the line of paint surrounding the repair.

No matter what you do there will be a mark where paint meets with gel coat.

Frosty and PAR, I am sorry for the confusion. For whatever reason I failed to realize I am asking this question on this thread but I can still use your help.

I want to paint the bottom of the ski to get it looking better. I have done the prep work and have sprayed it with Aerosol urethane cans.... This is the thread for the bottom of the ski

I am happy about the side, it looks descent, small area hidden by the side gunwale...Bottom is a different story, its a large area and although its at the bottom, I'd like to try to improve it but don't want to spend much money in urethane paint and cans...

If it is a concave performance ski no improvement in its performance will come from a shiny surface.

I used to use an EP comp 1 and could run 6 bouys at 34 behind a competition mastercraft.

I can not remember how many conversations I have had about bottom of the ski finish.

Frosty, I agree! I just wanted to do a better job and learn something, didn't think it would improve the performance...

I ride offshore and most of the time I am more airborn than on the water lol
Unlike lake guys, my ski is mostly bouncing...
