picked up a project boat last week and am close to getting the interior where i want it, so i need to now start planning the motor. Previous owner thought the starter was bad and wouldn't start because of that. Dug in this weekend and found it was full of water, and has been for a while, so there is no salvaging this motor. Looks like water came in through the top of the spark arrester (missing wingnut on top let water in over the past year).

haven't found much in the way of 4.3L Mercruisers in my area, most folks are running bass boats around here so there just isn't a lot of options around for salvage engines. I did find a Volvo Penta that I can get for a good deal, but still trying to find out what is involved in a swap like that. I am finding mixed info (imagine that)!

Keep looking or good start?

volvo and mercruiser used the same 4.3, shouldn't be hard to do.

That's correct. They are both Chevy engines.
