Trimaran with accomodation in the amas

The Voyager was designed at 45' but quite a few were built 48+ for that room in the head. The Nicol yard offered the hulls pre built for the customers to add their own interior as a option.

Yes now that I see it I remember that Voyager picture. I must have seen it in a very early book. Thanks for publishing it. In fact I think the builder of Tripolka said he was onboard when he was considering designs and it inspired him. In any case it must have been bloody windy to push it along at that speed with the underpowered rig. The hulls were fat with a low beam to length ratio which reduced the attainable speeds but made it an excellent load bearing cruiser. I would love to see what could be done with the same hull design with lighter, modern materials and a sleek coachroof. Anyhow I amazed myself by finding the plans from the spec sheet when we bought her in 1990. 6 cabins, 4 toilets and 2 showers. Not bad!

The brokerage that listed your old boat was Scott Brown Multihulls in England, Scott might know the current whereabouts. I recall it was built in Derek Kelsall's yard and did read a interview about his later build process where he mentioned what a pain building such a large cold molded boat was. It took a crew to do. Here is a early Voyager drawing from a article in the AYRS newsletter of the day. Norm Cross later offered this layout as one of the options on his 50 footer.

Thanks for the drawing. As you can see ours was a bit different. Could we be speaking about 2 different boats? The documentation I have is from a broker called Multihull Marketing in Parkstone, Dorset, run by Mr E .G. Bird. It states 'based on H. Nicol design, redesigned by Z. Milewski Naval Architect to Lloyds. Original Voyager Class. Built by owner and shipwright to Lloyds in 1974. Registered in Bristol'. The original owner was Charles Palyczynski, and he said it was built in the Bristol area. He said his family built it but it may have been done by or with Derek Kelsall. Not sure. Would be great to find her but not holding my breath. And it will be a long way from Sydney ;-) BTW I remember there was another Voyager in the Caribbean called 'Trespasser'. Would have been considerably older and no idea where built.

Scott or Derek might know. As to the differences I'm not sure 2 were ever built alike. Hedley would state on his plans that things like cabins and layouts were suggestions and he expected builders to tailor things to their needs.
