It has been a long time since I participated actively on this Forum, and I did enjoy my years here. Since 2017, my wife and I have been sailing around the world on the very first boat I designed professionally, Corroboree, a wood-epoxy 35' monohull with a free-standing carbon fiber mast in a sloop rig. We purchased Corroboree back from my original owner in 2014 and spent two years refurbishing and repairing her for our circumnavigation. We are in Cape Town, South Africa, now, a little more than 3/4s the way around, and we will be finishing our trip in Grenada in June. When we get there, Corroboree will be for sale. I have posted a For Sale flyer in the marketplace page on this Forum which you can see here:

CORROBOREE will be For Sale--soon! https://www.boatdesign.net/threads/corroboree-will-be-for-sale-soon.67863/

My wife, Arliss, writes a blog about our trip, The Old Woman and the Sea, which you can read here: https://www.arlissryan.com/blog/.

You can also track the last stages of our trip in real time, on line, at two websites:

    PredictWind: SV_CORROBOREE https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/SV_CORROBOREE/

    Garmin: Garmin Explore™ https://share.garmin.com/CORROBOREE

Thanks for letting me post this notice here. If anyone has any questions about the boat or our trip, you can contact me through this forum or by email at ewsponberg@gmail.com.

    Cheers,

    Eric

Congrats on your travels Eric... a truly epic voyage, in so many ways!
I'm sure you'll also be sorry to see the "old gal" go too..

Safe onwards travels to the Caribbean, it can be a bit nasty that side of Cape Town....and then for home.

Thanks, John. yes, we are watching the weather daily and tomorrow looks like a good weather window to start heading north.

Someday we hope to visit Japan--by air. When we do, I'll let you know.

    Chieers,
    Eric

I have very much enjoyed following your adventure's on your wife's excellent Blog over the past 5+ years - congrats from me as well on your epic voyage so far.
Will you be stopping at St Helena and / or Ascension on the way north?
I guess we can't persuade you to visit Barbados first, rather than Grenada, as we are about 160 miles upwind of Grenada?
(I first bumped into Eric about 45 years ago, when they arrived in Barbados after crossing from the Canaries in a little 27' Danish built yacht (I think she was a Bianca 27?), and then our paths crossed again in Newport one day 10 years later).

Hi Bajan! Yes, indeed, we are stopping at St. Helena and then Fernando de Noronha on the way to Grenada. Unfortunately, we will not be going to Barbados. But I remember you well, both when you came by our boat Duprass (yes, a Bianca 27) in December 1977, and then later when you came to Newport and stopped in at my design office. Grenada is where we officially started our circumnavigation and where we wish to end it. But who knows, we may get back to Barbados one day!

Glad you have remained a friend all these years.

    Cheers,

    Eric

I keep checking to see if Arliss will update her blog about the passage. Nothing yet.

They made it to Grenada today. Their track shows them anchored in Prickly Bay. Congrats to Eric and Arliss.

Arliss has another great blog post on the problems they faced on the last leg of their voyage.

Thanks, Chuck, for following so closely. Yes, we put into Prickly Bay on Thursday late afternoon, then Friday morning we motored around to Port Louis Marina in St. George's Harbor. We are now official circumnavigators! We'll be here for about two weeks before heading back up to Florida. Arliss will try to get another blog up covering our last leg before we leave here.

Corroboree is officially for sale. We welcome all enquiries. We know that Corroboree is not meant to be a circumnavigator--although now she is one--but her new home should be on more protected waters like back in her original home in the Great Lakes, on Chesapeake Bay, or perhaps the New England coast from Long Island to Maine. Maybe someone out there wants a unique liveaboard boat with great construction in rare wood. Again, here is the listing and spec sheet:

Welcome back to the Caribbean @Eric Sponberg and Arliss, and congrats on your potter around the world in the boat that was not meant to be a circumnavigator (there could be a hint of a book title there perhaps?) , but which took on the task with enthusiasm, aided and abetted by her experienced and knowledgeable crew.
It speaks volumes about Corroboree's design, build and ongoing maintenance when pretty much the most 'exciting' thing (re negative aspects) to happen in 25,000+ miles was the issue with your broken steering cable.
