WoodenBoat has gone down hill in recent years. Management changes several years ago and a rearranged focus have made it a less appealing rag. They have paid Monk some service, but I've all but given up on them in recent years.

Magazines are a really tough business these days, reality is that it takes dollars to put it out. Ed Monk has bought no advertizing in WoodenBoat.....those that have, get coverage.

Aaahh..I see I have hit a nerve, of which you appear to have many.

In plain old speak, that means, someone who has a different opinion or point of view or disagrees with you, you call them argumentative, belligerent etc and place them on to your ignore list. All that displays is intolerant arrogance to others with an opinion or point of view that differs from your own. Hardly an admirable characteristic….and oh, harassing you??!!...geeeesss, pleaseeeeeeeee, don’t flatter yourself with your own self importance.

Then don’t waste it. You are replying to what you consider posts that are argumentative, belligerent etc, no one is forcing you to waste your time other than your own pathologic desire to have the last word and your word must be seen as the only view. As its clear anything that is different is not welcomed or wanted.

Dunno, you tell me, you keep replying. Repeat, no one is forcing you to reply or post. If you are unable to comprehend that clarification of words or subjects are required to explore said topic/subject and you elect to view that as picking, that’s your prerogative. But do not assume everyone else is unable to comprehend the basics of requesting clarification as you appear to be. Oh, by the way, I’m not an aeroplane….and for someone who loves to constantly express their views, is butter good or evil? Common..why be so shy all of a sudden...and why does it matter so much to you???

It is very clear your character is rather unsuited to Blogs. A blog is full of people with vastly different views from your own and different characteristics and just as widely and weirdly ideological as your own, all with their own unyielding and repenting points of view that they wish to get across and stamp the last word on the matter, as if it matters somehow?? This is just a globally public free for all room and not an established and respected institution where world shattering events are swiftly dealt with for the good of humanity and every point is important and could save lives or vast amount of money and those with “visionary” ideas are rewarded with endless accolades. A blog is no different from a pub where people want to chat (about anything)...that's it. Perhaps you don't like pubs, or just simply people with different views and not sheepish in stating them or asking you to clarify yours?

However, when you encounter someone whose view is diametrically opposite to your own either one can listen or one can simply elect not to listen or respond. Calling them argumentative etc simply displays your own intolerance to others and their point of view (no matter how different it may be). Thus, putting people on an ignore list because you don’t like their opinions is very churlish and petty and one ends up becoming more myopic, if that is even possible!

Gentle men lets get back to boats and push you personal feelings into the back ground and over a cliff if need be !!
A couple of so days and its the new year !! dont step into 2013 and take with you bad feelings and hostilities .hang up you gloves and leave them there .

Its a great day in China with the new longest high speed train just left Beijing on its way south . amazing it carries 1000 passengers travels at over 300 kmts per hour and cuts the usual times by less than 2/3rds ,
While i lived in Japan i used the Shinkansen to travel from Tokyo to Osaka and from Osaka ,south .
Now i live in China i use the Shanghai to Nanjing hi speed train regularly cuts a bus trip of almost 2 hours or more to just 25 minutes to the same station / airport . :p:D

I didn't know about the management changes but that may explain some things. We keep some old issues for reference but no longer buy any.

Back to Gartside. He does draw an attractive boat. Some say they can be difficult for an amateur to build.

I still buy Woodenboat every month,
but I immediately go to the "launching and relaunching" section"
its still my favourite part of the mag. :D

I do enjoy most of the mag, and admittedly there are many articles that
    are beyond my understanding.
(i'm constantly looking for a glossary section! *LOL*)

I think its a pretty decent rag for the cost.

Gartsides boats are wooden boats. wooden boats are always challenging to build .

Material costs...bronze, quality timber and woodworking machinery ...are issues for home builders.

this is the reason why Ply and epoxy is favored by homebuilders

Understood, that is the reason I build with ply and epoxy.
I was comparing apples to apples.

I think if you check back over the past 20 years you will find years and years worth of Gartside adds. Look in "Designs and Plans". My comment was a bit tongue-in-cheek, Ed Monk Sr. died about the time WoodenBoat started and his son has avoided wooden boats to concentrate on large fiberglass yachts.

Paul's design Zulu is currently doing very well in the VanIsle 360 race, last week she was leading Division 2.

Gee, I didn't know we (WB) had a management change...

But what would I know? I've only been the publisher for the past 24 years.

But we always appreciate constructive criticism.

    Thanks, all. Carl
