    Maybe it's time for another clue..
    After retreating throw this gorge the defeated army was shipped to Egypt..

    Is it the Bouraikos* gorge in the prefecture of Achaea on the northern coast of the Peloponnese . . ?

    * also called ‘‘Vouraikos’’ a matter of how to translate ‘‘Βουραϊκός’’

    Not that either.. No railway here. Only by foot or a donkey ride.. And we are not on the mainland Greece..

    Ah... I tought it was the mainland because of this clue ‘‘was an important route of a defeated army ones’’. I tought a long route was meant here, so on mainland.

    Crete was popping up all the time but I excluded that because it's an island.

    So if an island, I go for Crete. Manny gorges there. I'll go for the Samariá Gorge.

    Many gorges there, in fact most of them here are on Crete. But I have no more time today, so it is for some one else to explore . . :)
