Suffice it to say that Perry was welcomed! Nothing to do with Coolidge comments, nor cookin' (other than birds to eat, probably).

That was very easy: Hudson Bay near Churchill in Manitoba, Canada ;)

BTW: Polar bears are not an endangered species because of the global warming but (were) because of the hunting. It's nearly vomitive the manipulation that has been done using images totally out of context from this iconic animal.

    Kasatochi Island, Aleutians?
President Coolidge was the the greatest animal keeper in White House history.
But I do not yet find the link. Not even with the "SS President Coolidge"

....America's 30th president, Coolidge: "When John Manjiro returned to Japan, it was as if America had sent its first ambassador. Our envoy Perry could enjoy so cordial a reception because John Manjiro had made Japan's central authorities understand the true face of America."

....The endangered species may be the short-tailed albatross (Phoebastria albatrus).... Torishima island? But this island is triangularly shaped....

What John Manjiro has to do with the Kasatochi island?

    Cheers.

John Manjiro didn't ever go to the Andreanov Islands, let alone Kasatochi!
    But, The short-tailed Albies DO!
Manjiro was picked up, marooned on a different island. In 1841 at the age of 14, John Manjiro, whose fishing vessel was wrecked in Ashizuri-oki, landed on this island, where he was rescued by a U.S. whaler and brought to America. He became the first Japanese to set foot on American soil. There are multiple Torishimas (meaning: bird island). I saw the triangular low one but the Volcanic one erupted in 1903 to nearly finish the devastation of these magificent birds. They are rare enough that their world's foremost authority came to Alaska to view these birds (on the research ship I worked on) in the Andreanovs.

Amazing resemblance - the two volcanos (from a distance)

Now I see, the Torishima island is not the triangularly shaped one (Marcus island), but the Torishima (To-shima) in the Izu archipelago, Japan.

But the images from Google Earth show a different shape than the island you posted, Mark.

    Cheers.

Another image and a clue: this island is today a national park.

    Cheers.
