Probably easy. This happened close to our summer house. The day after we bathed from a beatoful stony beach it was covered with crude oil!

Steinvika (stone bay). We walked from Langesund where we "parked" our boat.
    Såstein is correct f course.
"off limits" because of the birds?

After the leak from Full City we visited Steinvika again but left after five menutes because of the smell. Our fjord inside Langesund did not get any oil, lucky for us. I wonder if the thiusands of property owners with oil on their beaches can sue the ship owner?

After all, it could have been worse. We visited Mølen a few km east of Langesund, reported to be contaminated. We saw a "belt" of black stones but not as much as expected, and one dead bird, and hundreds of live brds.

Washing of birds is almost tragic. some people spent lots of time collecting 30 birds and the radio reported "today we will MAYBE wash one goose". In a few weeks hundreds of birds will normally be shot by hunters. should we wash them first and then shoot them, or just shoot them right away and end their suffering?

OK, maybe a bit off topic :)

raggi, sounds llike you are a bird lover too, and a man of the nature Bravo

How did that ship get there , it,s flat calm:))
here there was a container ship lost some containers in storm coming into Brisbane, one holed a fuel oil tank, spilt 240 tonne, they wanted to lock up the master!! and spents months cleaning every piece of sand, every stone was scrubbed, gave 100,s of jobs
point was was not the masters fault and if your harbour is open to trade spills will occur
take the big one up in North America was it exxxon valdez? anyways that place is fully as it was now. And they could not clean the wild shoreline

There was a storm a few nights before that picture was taken.
The ship was told to wait just outside the Langesund fjord, I have alwasy thought the ships laying there where waiting for pilot, but this one was waiting to get a place in the harbour at Hydro/Yara(?).

They have found the ankor with broken "arms" (what do you call it).
The captain is charged for not warning about the situation. I think they drifted for at least half an hour before they hit the shore.

    Raggi,
Interesting to see the two barriers scheme. Would something like that have been work in the case of the "Prestige" if they had brought her inside the Corcubion Ria instead of sailing it outwards into the ocean? That's still the big question in that case, in my opinion.

Presently sailing with one of my children, I send you all a warm embrace from Bayona's harbour.

    Cheers.

it seems very strange that the arms have gone, before the chain, it seems, that perhaps the forging was faulty?

If it ever had been forged? On a lesser scale, I was in a boatyard once and a motor cruiser owner accidentaly dropped his "immitation" CQR from the boat to the ground, about 6 feet, and it snapped in two.

Yes Ragnar. I have seen the report in German TV and they said Lille Såstein was a birds sanctuary and off limits at this time.
