Whats the average salary for a boat designer.

    Just as a comparison point, naval archs in federal service can usually get to GS-13 by mid career (see the post on employment for Coast Guard) with some getting to GS-14 or 15 by retirement. See www.opm.gov for what these are by region, and what other benefits come with it.

    Naval Architect

    I quit the business 20 years ago and went to commercial Naval Architecture. As a yacht designer, I had 10 years experience and was making 8 to 10 thousand per year. With a young family, this was just not enough for me. My earnings were probably about average for the time.

    By the way, I was surprised to find I enjoyed designing commercial and military vessels as much as yachts.
