    Alan,
thanks for the tip on making a board - I'll do that. Just 1/4" masonite - that will be very flexible then. Tool rental centers have sandpaper 30" long? If my local rental center doesn't have it (in the FL Keys, we don't have everything you find up on the mainland), anyone have a good place to buy paper on line? I like using coarse paper - what is the coarsest you'd recommend, and how many sheets of paper/boards will I need?

Either (36") bench sander belts or drum sander paper (must be close to 30"?), and I'd use 36 grit or so if painting (or appropriate for continuing on to higher grits if finished clear).
As said, once sanded coarse, just scrape microlight/epoxy across the wood to fill sanding scratches, then sand lightly and prime.
If the crown/curvature is slight, even 3/8" masonite will do. Experiment. Home Depot sells the stuff (called Handy panels or something) in 2 x 4 foot pieces for cheap.

    Alan,
Thanks! The sandbelt paper is readily available at our local hardware stores, and I'm sure masonite is available there too. Any opinion on how many boards I should make up?
