    In other words, Ward, "yes.":D

Mark will be grabbing all the government cash he can lay his grubby little hands on, while railing against the 'socialists and communists' who made it possible for him to get it.

I wrote the Science Museum asking them about the Climate Science gallery. Here their answer:

    Dear Mr Gefaell

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 3rd October 2010, regarding the Science Museum’s new “Atmosphere… exploring climate science” gallery.

I am sorry to hear that you had difficulty finding information about the gallery on our website and I hope you find the following link helpful: http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/visitmuseum/~/link.aspx?_id=A5009A401DA04A229987ECB41EF8BA6F&_z=z

You may also be interested to know that the Science Museum is currently creating a series of web pages which will be part of the main web site and which will allow you to keep up-to-date with galleries, installations and events throughout the three years of the “Climate Changing” programme, of which “Atmosphere… exploring climate science” is a part. You will also find over 600 pages of simple explanations, including over 60 specially-created animations, to help answer your questions about climate science.

The web pages will be launched at the same time as the opening of the “Atmosphere… exploring climate science” gallery, on Saturday 4th December 2010.

The role of the Science Museum is to provide an enjoyable, informative experience for the general public which is representative of the state of the science. Our aim is to increase interest and deepen understanding about climate science. Content will be led by the scientific evidence available and will therefore highlight the fact that the majority of the climate science community has concluded that current climate change is real, mainly human-induced and requires a response. We have come to realise that given the way the debate has become polarised over the past year, we need to be respectful and welcoming of all views on it. The gallery will speak to those who accept that human-induced climate change is real, those who are unsure and those who do not.

I trust that this information is of some use and hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you to the Science Museum and the “Atmosphere… exploring climate science” gallery sometime in the future.

    Kind regards

    Nicola Burghall

    Bolded is mine.
This museum information is not in contradiction with what I had posted in post 9953.
Neither was what Boston posted. But he, idiotically as always, thought so.

I would love to visit the gallery, although most probably it's going to be difficult to me. But, who knows....? :)
Anyhow, I will vist the web pages, absolutely!

    Cheers.

Judging by that letter, and by what Boston posted earlier, the Museum isn't as cowardly as I thought. They're simply giving a nod to those who disagree with the science, not disowning it. OK; I have no problem with them saying, 'by the way, some people disagree with us - and here's why.'

I should know better than to jump to conclusions without doing my own investigating, when I read something posted here.

Has the ozone hole contributed to increased Antarctic sea ice extent?

    Abstract:
Since the 1970s sea ice extent has decreased dramatically in the Northern Hemisphere and increased slightly in the Southern Hemisphere, a difference that is potentially explained by ozone depletion in the Southern Hemisphere stratosphere. In this study we consider the impact of stratospheric ozone depletion on Antarctic sea ice extent using a climate model forced with observed stratospheric ozone depletion from 1979 to 2005. Contrary to expectations, our model simulates a year-round decrease in Antarctic sea ice due to stratospheric ozone depletion. The largest percentage sea ice decrease in our model occurs in the austral summer near the coast of Antarctica, due to a mechanism involving offshore Ekman sea ice transport. The largest absolute decrease is simulated in the austral winter away from the coast of Antarctica, in response to an ocean warming that is consistent with a poleward shift of the large-scale pattern of sea surface temperature. Our model results strongly suggest that processes not linked to stratospheric ozone depletion must be invoked to explain the observed increase in Antarctic sea ice extent.

    (Bolded is mine)

Kevin Trenberth had defended the influence of the hole in the ozone layer on Antartic sea ice:

The ozone hole has been a reason "why Antarctica has not warmed the same way as other parts of the world," Trenberth said by email.

"How the ozone hole recovery comes about in the future is a major factor in expected developments, as shown in some model simulations."

So, is this another of Dr. Trenberth's "travesties"? :p

Don't make me sing the Internationale. Just shoot me. It surpasses slavery to the ignorant lazy masses.

the rich sure do rely on ignorant lazy masses for their lifestyle

sometimes in my less charitable moments I think that about the tea partiers, the things they say and believe reminds me of alice in wonderland

Whom they pay well. If you kill the rich the ignorant lazy masses will lose their income and starve to death.

how long did you think about this?

there is a line in a movie Inherit the Wind where spencer tracy asks "do you think about the things you think about"

Oh please. If the masses were as ignorant and lazy as you like to pretend, the rich wouldn't stay rich long; there'd be no one to produce their wealth for them.

You were born in the wrong time and place, Hoyt. You'd have made a great loyal family retainer, defending your beloved laird o' the manor against thim ungrateful, disobedient serfs.

"As for the laird -- remember he's the laird; I say no more: honour to whom honour. It's a pleasure to obey a laird; or should be,....

What gets me is that they've twisted things around, and convinced the suckers they're exploiting to blame each other for the country's problems.

Not related to climate change, but at least it is not political rant....:p

Around december 9-10, 2010, object JL33 (1.3 km size) will pass at less than 0.05 AU of Earth. This is quite farther than the Moon, but a "close encounter" anyhow....

And this one, smaller, (595 m size), is going to pass even closer in october 31.
(0,0176 AU which is +/- 5 times the Moon distance )
