Looking at building a Very Slender Vessel with Low Displacement Length of about 24-30 foot boat using a maximum 4HP outboard or motor for commuting 4nM. Live in Australia where you don’t need to register a boat under 4HP. Looking at maximum speed and 4-6 foot wide. Made with stitch and glue 5mm thick marine ply. Any thoughts?

A look at the designs from N. G. Herreshof would be a good place to start. Lots of them have been made available on line.

A very interesting project. A first calculation gives 7.3/6.7 x 1.5/1.2 maximum total weight 500 kg, 4 hp, 10.0 knots. That is, it is a semi-planing boat and must be designed as such.
Personally, I would start with the experience I have gathered with my boats with a trapezoidal bottom.

Main thing is what JS says, that won't be a planing hull.

And the trickier bit is making sure the CoM and CoB line up or the boat will have a trim issue which you can defeat with weight in a light craft, but at the expense of speed and payload. Speaking from experience; not expertise.

The SASS Design Keyhaven Skiff does look like it would fit your needs admirably.

I don't think you necessarily need to have a boat in the 24' - 30' range for commuting (in sheltered water?), if a smaller / lighter / cheaper boat will do the job.
Will the boat be used on the Brisbane River, and kept in the water when not in use?

Keyhaven Skiff is the smallest I recommend. A larger boat is currently being built based on the same concept.

"Commute from Southern Morten Bay Islands to Redland Bay. Also, to bring groceries and jerrycans of petrol back. And sometimes 4 people."

What would be the maximum typical weight of groceries and petrol jerrycans you would have to carry on each trip?
Re the cargo capacity, would it be for 4 people plus the groceries and petrol?

Looks like reasonably sheltered waters - here is a Google map of the area. Might be a wee bit choppy if the wind is in the northeast, or not really?

That’s exactly the type of boat! Are you building it?!

Mainly 2 people with cargo. The occasional time to pickup friends from mainland. Yeah, need to weigh the cans.
