Forgive me for a newbie question, but can anyone explain the differences between the various types of Dutch barges (Luxemotor, Tjalk, etc.)?

    Thanks.

Luxemotor is (was) a brand, Tjalks, Aaks, Botters, Kotters and the other hundred common names, are different types of the Dutch fleet of mainly flatbottomed boats. Luxemotor barges were canal freight barges, they make a perfect liveaboard on european waterways, have been high quality builds and are much sought after.
A Tjalk is a flat bottom sailing boat with sideboards instead of a keel.
To describe them here in detail would be a real task for one of our Dutch members. But maybe there will one chime in to do that.

    Regards
    Richard
