steam power could run on just about anything that burns
    and
would not be subject to the vagaries of the wind

I always did know there must be a good reason why I restored these old steamships, I just never found which reason that could be!.........:p

It's a tough choice. Like some others I love the look of the WaterWorld trimaran + egg-beater.

No Jenny, a romantic thought, but no...:D I liked that too but other problems put me off and hitch-hiker rig is the best "lazy" option for wind power at the present...

sails and rigging are not cheap and need to be replaced constantly
diesel or producing biodiesel is and will be a pain in the *** if things really fall apart
and what you going to do if your fuel pump goes out middle of nowhere
I just cant see anything but steam being reliable
you can burn just about anything ( Im thinking pellets but ground up politicians will do in a pinch )
and its got far far less moving parts than a conventional engine and no transmission at all
couldnt be any simpler and its cheap to boot
    my two cents

I'm going to have to go with kite and thermoacoustic to electric, unless I can get a steam plant accepted by the post-accopalyptic veritas! Maybe a little pulse detonation auxiliary?

What are we going to do to find fuel out in the ocean? fish liver oil? fermented, or dried seaweed? Oil-producing algae? These all sound so voluminous and heavy! Maybe I can store enough hydrogen in the kite?

Maybe all the fish are dead, then we can eat shrimps!

At 50m waterlevel rise, no change, nearer to the waterfront and I will be able to see my boat when anchored in the bay...:!::!: but global warming is a "dead-ant" concern:?::eek:

ya just wait till the big frieze sets in or the 300 mph superstorms hit
now that out to drive some waves eh
its going to get interesting Mas
one way or another its going to get real interesting

I still think ground up politicians would make an appropriate fuel source

I chose a trimaran sail because fuel would very hard to find and winds without land to disrupt them would be ferocious and the width of a trimaran would hopefully prevent it from capsizing when it became to dangerous to raise sails . A rectangle has four corners so passengers can escape each other to some extent , a mono hull has only fore and aft . If disaster struck and she broke up a trimaran offers 3 chances of leaving at least one hull afloat and i imagine it would also prove to be the most comfortable if it remained afloat while upside down . You would starve to death before you climbed aboard an upside down mono hull .

    Does chocolate float ?

It depends on the fat content (cocoa butter), but I would wait until I knew whether there was global warming or cooling before I built a chocolate trimaran.
