It starts in the same place, and the boats are also in the Hobart.

I hope the old bugger can still see where he's going. :D

An entry in the Sydney Hobart yacht Race thats what its got to do with.

    Design Brief:::

The principal objective of this 30m canting keeled racing sloop named speedboat is to make a challenge for speed records and offshore titles. Within hours of mounting the 44.3-metre deck-stepped, five spreader cathedral in-line rig to the carbon fiber hull with its canting keel and daggerboards, and 3 days after leaving the yard, Speedboat topped 28 knots in Auckland Harbour. She made her debut in the 2008 Newport-Bermuda Race winning line honours and is now set for the Transatlantic record amongst other races.

The construction of this boat was carried out by COOKSON BOATS New Zealand.

It has Just received a new Canting Keel . Another Canting keel yacht in the Race.

Making the Three Favourites for LINE HONOURS HAVING Canting Keels one with a new Canting Keel.

    Sydney-Hobart 2013-warm up-Big Boat Challenge

Warm up maybe but Wild Oats XI was hot, winning line honors in the Big Boat Challenge by more than two minutes:

From a post by Alan Block on SA:

Anthony Bell, owner-skipper of Perpetual Loyal, was not dismayed by his loss in the first clash between the two as he ripped a large R1 headsail halfway through the race and had no chance of catching Wild Oats XI after that.
Bell said he was very happy with his boat's overall performance and with the way his crew recovered after the breakage.

    --------------
From Rob Mundle's article in Sail-World(link above) :

While Wild Oats XI powered around the next mark – adjacent to the entrance to Sydney Harbour – with a comfortable lead, Perpetual Loyal continued on with the remnants of the gennaker flying from the masthead like a tattered flag. By the time her crew was able to bring the torn sail to the deck, Wild Oats XI had established an insurmountable lead. She sailed to the finishing line off the Opera House with her 85-year-old owner, Bob Oatley, standing proudly at the helm. The winning margin was more than two minutes.

    Go Wild Oats XI!

Ok, so the motor sailer won because the other boat blew out a gennaker and had some trouble cleaning up the mess. Man, that DSS sure did the trick, huh?

    Thanks for the Link Doug.

and OOPS Did I read the sail cost 170,000 Dollars.
Ex Speed boat - well with the way the article was written i would have thought Wild Oats would have won by more than 6 minutes. Plus it was a short course. SH not so.

Doug I have $10 Dollars and 2 Beers plus a rum and Coke

Perpetual Loyal will be Loyal to its followers and STORMY Old Wild Oats X1 will be beaten to Hobart.

Wild Oats is Not going anywhere, not even to the AC.
