I was thinking HDPE sheets over EPS, but I suppose HDPE pipe is available too and you might be able to mostly flatten a section of large HDPE sewer pipe into a platform, add end caps and fill it with liquid foam . Here is more info on welding together HDPE. It wouldn't need to be so thick if it has foam inside.

    Some dock floats are similar.

    Chukchi,

Dacron will bond well with epoxy, I do it for SOF kayaks to the cockpit ring (wood).
But Dacron has lots of stretch so it will not really stiffen up the foam.
    Glass would be better.
A plywood catamaran shape would be better than a flat rectangle.
Getting on a flat rectangle will be more difficult since it will sink a lot when you try to climb on board an edge.
A catamaran shape with modest pointed ends will be easier to move to your diving point.
4mm (about 3/16") plywood would still be very light for transporting.
Foam in large solid quantities gets heavier than most suppose.

This might work for you :D

Perhaps the Alabama logo would have been hard for you?

hahaha. What about the un-useful, but fun, parts?

    :)

Are you going with a raft type, or more of a board type?

    Or, the lawn chair?

    Wayne

PS, my brother and I used to build stuff like the lawn chair .... amazing what you can survive.
