    Just a question for our steel bofs

    is our Mild steel plate and / or boiler plate which i think is BS 0143 ????
    comparable to AISI 1040

    i am just trying to see what our normal standard commercial quality mild steel plate (3mm to 10mm) compares to

    its way expensive but everybody should have a copy of machinery's handbook

    Would also be good to have a copy of Marks' Mechanical Engineers Handbook also. That one is more expensive than the one you mention but has encyclopedic information.

    It provide Mechanical Properties Data for Steel, Aluminum, and Fiber Reinforced Plastics.

    Also, provides Scantlings for the different materials.

    And tons of other information

    Another book I recommend is Dave Gerr's The Elements of Boat Strength for Builders, Designers, and Owners; International Marine; Camden, ME; 2000
