Wynand what is the projected time frame for this build - i cant find it on your website. It would be interesting to know when you are hoping to do what. I am so impressed with this project that i will book leave now already to be at the launch and buy you and the gang a beer or three.

Groete en sterkte vir die pad vorentoe.

Wynand the more i look at the pics the more i am amazed at its beauty.

how did you cut the 3mm hot rolled plate and did you then dress it = hand torch or nibbler

because to get that accuracy of the joints there is only two ways = cnc laser = or lofting by a master that can mark and punch and oxy acet to 0.5 mm

either way what ever DAMN it looks good

i have a similar background = iscor vd bijl = boilershop and then the drawing board at vaal tech

ek kan raakvat n myl ver sien - geluk

    Manie,

On this Dixie 43 the complete hull with the exception of the keel was plated by 4mm mildsteel plate. The deck plating is all 3mm hot rolled plate. As a note of interest, I had built a Dix 57 and Dix 65 previously with exactly the same plating schedule...

The hull was lofted in full and frames built on loft floor (2 lofts). All cutting of the hull plating was with the old trusted oxy-acetylene equipment using a Harris cutting torch with 0.8mm cutting nozzle. In my view CNC cutting files and cutting are vastly overated and I wont touch them on/for hull plating and deck.
Deck plating will be cut using the same equipment with the exception of the cabin top edge curve that need to be perfect smooth and here we used a grinder with cutting disc. See photo attached.

Welding was done by a 220V Thermamax 200AMP DC inverter MIG using 0.8mm welding wire. Welding done with grinding disc down to just above plating and then to be sanded smooth using flat type flapper paper disc for perfect smooth finish without grinding into plating (still to be done on waratah)

    tub

Wynand i just realised that there is one thing that you MUST CHANGE

and that is your webpage says Amateur boat building

there is nothing amateur about this build

it is 100 % PROFESSIONAL - done the way it should be

and it will ensure a good return on capital invested

ek zoom op al julle welding en fok dis reg:D :D :D

    Wynard N,

This is a Frosty question (I am learning from him).

Why is the guy in the lower picture standing on the wall, is it that he started drinking too early, or is it that in that oart of the world, things are done on the side?
