    LyricsRussian:

Ey, ukhnem!

    Transliteration (Poetic):

    Ey, ukhnem!
    Yeshcho razik, yeshcho da raz!
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Yeshcho razik, yeshcho da raz!
    Razovyom mi beryozu,
    Razovyom mi kudryavu!
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Razovyom mi kudryavu.
    Mi po berezhku idyom,
    Pesnyu solnishku poyom.
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Pesnyu solnishku poyom.
    Ey, Ey, tyani kanat cilney!
    Pesnyu solnishku poyom.
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Yeshcho razik, yeshcho da raz!
    Ey, ti, Volga, mat-reka,
    Shiroka i gluboka,
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Ai-da, da ai-da,
    Volga, Volga, mat-reka
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Yeshcho razik, yeshcho da raz!
    Ey, ukhnem!
    Ey, ukhnem!

    English translation:

    Yo, heave ho!
    Yo, heave ho!
Once more, once again, still once more
    Yo, heave ho!
    Yo, heave ho!
Once more, once again, still once more
Now we fell the stout birch tree,
Now we pull hard: one, two, three.
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
Now we pull hard: one, two, three.
    As the barges float along,
To the sun we sing our song.
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
To the sun we sing our song.
Hey, hey, let's heave a-long the way
to the sun we sing our song
    Yo, heave ho!
    Yo, heave ho!
Once more, once again, still once more
    Volga, Volga our pride,
Mighty stream so deep and wide.
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
    Ay-da, da, ay-da!
    Volga, Volga you're our pride.
    Yo, heave ho!
    Yo, heave ho!
Once more, once again, still once more
    Yo, heave ho!
    Yo, heave ho!

Oh, there are so many good songs!

The Yetties - Home dearest home (well it's about a sailor) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF0GusC4Xw0&playnext=1&list=PL2BEDF5C40DC331B5&index=11

The Yetties - South Australia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXcDYoo6opY&feature=related

The Yetties - The Sailor Cut Down In His Prime (beware them city women) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbhE2JvLU1A&feature=related

The Yetties - Spanish Ladies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YPIc_SVvbY&feature=BF&list=PL2BEDF5C40DC331B5&index=15

The Yetties (http://www.theyetties.co.uk/) are stopping touring on 10th of April. They have a stunning back catalogue of folk songs, though, and I'm sure CDs etc will continue to be available. The Yetties also did "The Leaving of Liverpool" brilliantly, but alas there is no clip on youtube. The Dubliners also did a version, but it's nowhere near as good (IMO).

Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance" and "HMS Pinafore" have some brilliant songs in them, but YT seems to be full of clips of very amateur productions, which is a shame because most of the actors just don't seem to get the subtlety of the G&S Scripts.

I'm surprised the soundtrack to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies hasn't cropped up here as well. Whilst not exactly songs about boats, the soundtrack is brilliant.

    Cheers,

    Tim B.

What can I say? I like Hans Zimmer's music.

I tried to find recording of Jolly Rogers Overture by Walter Leigh but was unsuccessful. Composer died near Tobruk in WW2. If anybody know of it it would be a welcome addition here.
