There are many ways to configure this boat for rowing. Traditionally, a paddle is used.

I am big fan (sofa fan) of Angus row cruiser. I have bought his plans for outriggers and the plans are great btw.

But I agree that having two rowers in the back is very hard to pull. Take turns?
The other uses a paddle? might still be tight but paddle can fit inside of an outrigger.

when Angus did the trip with his partner they had 2 boats that tied together for a camp platform.

Actually I think it might work ok to change row cruiser as little as possible.
Just with wider cuddy opening two (very size dependent) nimble people could probably sleep in current dimensions (feet to bow).
4' is at the afte end of cabin is not much but I have shared narrower beds than that.

Then when on the go, drop in pedal unit with a box/slot around the cuddy opening. pedaling crew member has the benefit of looking forward and staying on the lookout for bears.

Attempt to put two rowers (and their weight) to the rear would need complete re-think of the hull and even at best likely result in a miserable solo boat.

But row cruiser as is or a small (<5%) up-scale might work.

40km is a decent leg though if under human power only. what is realistic speed sustained?
    7-8kph?

Is a sail still under consideration? It could extend the boat's range just by virtue of giving the crew's muscles a rest.

I think this is going to need to be an entirely new boat , that may or may not look similar to the original Angus sail/row cruiser.
I will affix some sketches later.
They are not engineered specs, but rather the image I have in mind.
    Thanks

I agree. The row-cruiser has some nice features, but it's specialized for rowing; it doesn't even have a rudder, let alone any reasonable place to put a mast or leeboards. The final design will have to be a compromise based on a projected balance between rowing and sailing.

so, i know this is not how reality works, one doesnt simply stretch a boat on paper , and then get to it.
but this is basically the row sail cruiser stretched by +- 20%
    same beam of 5'
    fore and aft single "accommodations"
first drawing is the line plans of the inspiration.
second, in case you cant tell, LMAO is my "sketch"

i understand that this would be a design from the ground up possibly and being 24' long will be quite a craft and project

If you click on the box 'Upload a File' in the bottom right corner (to the right of 'Post reply') and then atatch a jpg photo, it should show up ok.
Or is that what you did above?

Angus Rowing has a kit-plans to make a sail-row version.

I built a Gilpatrick Laker years ago and considered making it into sleepable. The trouble is it is a sleeping boat and fishing boat and the stink and mess and wetness overwhelms the concept of sleeping in it.

Bears are attracted to odors. So are wolves. Here, I have wolves eat gutpiles. Our entrails are not allowed in the lakes, but I saw the fellow show the sleeping quarters and I can tell you I'd rather be in a tent with a bell system and a can of bear spray or .45 cal than sleep in a fish smelling boat that may attract the bears.

Very nice, but they don't seem to offer one with two rowing positions. If that's a priority, then the boat needs to be redesigned again anyway.
