Some daredevils there, don't know what that trestle looked like, as the pic shows no traces of it, but it could have been as skinny as the one shown below. If so then when the water's way is obstructed by floating logs or complete trees and other debris, such a trestle looks to be easily taken out by a mass of water pressing on the blocked skinny pillars . .

1885 - Same kind of trestle as above, but a different longitudinal beam on top, location ?

The above source didn't tell the location of the last shown trestle, here it says... ‘‘ railroad trestle bridging an abyss near Frankenstein, 1885 ’’

Which could mean it's a trestle near Frankenstein in Missouri . . ?

The first trestle bridge there is particularly elegant - but as you suggest, Angelique, probably little safety margin in the sizing of the members.
There seems to be something written quite large on one of the rocks in the background behind one of the columns - something Oil perhaps?

That would be something, if we'd found oil here on the forum . . :D

    Do you mean this . . . ?

Did we find oil in a 1885 pic of the Dale Creek Railroad Trestle in Sherman Wyoming.jpg
An in 1885 taken photograph of the Dale Creek Railroad Trestle supporting the Union Pacific Railway near Sherman in Albany County, Wyoming, USA.

It could be a magical map, such as the one that leads directly to dry land in Waterworld . .

Ha! I'm surprised we've never turned anything up on the 'Where is this?' thread!

No, I was meaning this: 20180521_194534.jpg

Thanks Adrian, I see it now, it looks like text in a cadre, indeed maybe ‘‘oil’’ at the end, so now the whole text is up here for best guesses...

Mysterious text as found on a 1885 photograph of the Dale Creek railroad trestle bridge near Sherman in Albany County, Wyoming, USA.

BTW, a few weeks ago I've sneaked a song about railroads into the thread Songs About Boats, in post #293.

‘‘ Never marry a Railroad man, He loves you every now and then, His heart is at his new train... ’’

Just in case someone thinks railroads are off topic here, this is about in 1900 imagining the wonders of life in the year 2000...

Which was already kinda reality in the 1950's, in the below 1953 video vegetables are heading for auctioning in the Netherlands, were the vegetable growers in the Westland and some other regions had their lands in watery areas, with little roads at that time, but some had to be crossed to access a different water level...

Here's a nowadays builder of these boats, as they're still in demand as workboats, and for dual duties, since they take the family out in the spare hours...
