That was the aircraft bone yard on Tinian. After WWII they cut up most of the aluminum and recycled it.

They had a similar one thou not as large on the south west coast of Newfoundland , USAAF and later USAF (Earnest Harmon,Stephenville). It was built up over the years 40's to 60's. Many of the vintage aircraft were actually flown in the Europen Campain of the war. I remember as small kids we would select one that was quazi in one piece and fly that thing all over the world. Thanks for the memories :)

Reason that I ask, is that I knew of a major graveyard for decommissioned B29 out in AZ somewhere.

I also knew of a few at Aberdeen Proving Ground that I got aboard back in the late 50's. I actually pulled an aux emergency generator out of one B-29 plane and used it to make a big go-cart. Got a pic somewhere around here if I can find it.

I found some pics of that custom cart that my Dad and I built, and even a couple of old dwgs....unbelievable I still have these considering all of my moving around over the years.

The engine was a V-2 built by Fairchild aircraft. It had twin cams located in the crankcase and overhead rocker arms working the valves. The cart was my design. I think I just found a web reference for that old engine...unbelievable this internet technology.

Wow yes for the boat handling and the money made by the ship owners but eek for their customers autos. Salt water -- steel bodies and copper wiring. Don't think thats a good mix. Especially having to replace one depending on the Greek economy for employment.
