What is the best (balance between clear and quality information but easy-ish to understand) source of information regarding ocean currents and their direction and speed over the course of a year, on a global basis?

Ocean racers and cruisers use this info, anyone know their sources?

I have found one or two interesting oceanography websites however currents are a fairly small part of their overall interest. Amazon doesnt seem to have anything specific or concise.

    Thanks any ideas. :D

I know that a few years ago, a container packed full of (of all things) little plastic ducks was lost over the side of its carrier ship and that in the process, the container opened, releasing tens of thousands of little yellow duckies to bob their merry way around the world. Oceanographers seized on this opportunity to use a whole lot of small but highly visible objects to track ocean currents. Try searching for that.

    Rubber duckie, you're the one

This may be a little off the mark, but have you had a look at Jimmy Cornell’s World Cruising Routes? Lot of info in there on all manner of cruising subjects.

    Cheers!

He probably does mention it but I am looking for something more accurate as the currents change not exactly month by month, but certainly in 2-3 monthly cycles.

    Thanks
