Problems with the radio

For some years I have had a problem with my radio that nobody is able to sort out.
The radio is a recent Raymarine (2002) and was checked by the importer and is apparently allright.
The problem is that it blows up all the antennas (aerials), it is the forth by now. The aerials are mounted with new cables and after a very short time, I only have a very limited reception capacity.

Where did the unit come from? The antenna has to match the output wattage of the transmitter. Different countries have different regulations for output wattage. For instance, the US requires 25 Watts maximum for marine VHF, but Mexico (as far as I know) has no such regulations. (You can pick up Mexican shrimp boats from a LONG ways off!). Anyway, ensure your antenna is rated at the wattage of your transmitter.

 

Corpus Skipper, around here max wattage is also 25 Watts. The antennas they sell here are for that kind of power.

My next question would be have you shortened the antenna lead? This could also cause the problem, and is the antenna mounted near a radar antenna?
