Lockheed-Martin is spruiking a breakthrough in fusion energy technology, which may usher in a revolution in cheap clean energy. It may be the only thing capable of terminating this thread !

A few keystrokes by the moderator could easily terminate this thread, much more cheaply than using nukes.

That would be great, but Lockheed-Martin isn't there yet.

I don't know how great it actually would be, were it to be realised. Might be implications beyond what has been anticipated.

An earlier post of mine included the statement from a scientist, that with Doppler radar and more populated areas and satellite imagery and cell phones, tornados of the past, thought to be and reported to be single funnels, are now observed and reported to be multiple in the modern era.
Not an increase in multiple funnels, just better reporting.
Anybody that has spent much time at sea has noticed water spouts, when they occur, are multiple, not single spouts.
They are not a different phenomenon, but simply tornados at sea, and seldom do damage for lack of habitations. And smaller, less fierce. Weight of water in funnel absorbs energy that dust doesn't? Or the heat difference between water and land causes difference in scale?
I'm not referring to AGW, but SUMMER heat, the season for tornados.
Never encountered a spout from a sailboat.
Anybody share their experience sailboat vs spout?
Doesn't bother motor vessels, except a good wetting.

The 'Blue Heart' of the planet is home to about 97% of life on Earth. The ocean generates the oxygen we breathe, regulates our climate, forms clouds that give us rain, and provides habitat for some of the most incredible creatures in the world. It's our life support system, yet less than 1% of
    it is protected.
Meet oceanographer Sylvia Earle. She has been exploring the depths for over 40 years and has spent more than 6,000 hours under the waves. She wants us to know why we should all be concerned about sustaining the health of the ocean.
With 90% of the oceans' large fish now gone, is the answer just to stop eating fish? Not exactly. As Captain Paul Watson has pointed out, the largest predatory ocean bird is now chicken, which eat more fish than puffins and albatross together. The biggest threat to fish populations, wild and farmed, is livestock. Factory farmed animals consume more fish than all humans on the planet.
But it's not too late to act. Simple yet critical decisions we each can make will help restore the balance to Earth's precious life support system. Here's how...

    1. Eat for tomorrow
Reducing or eliminating animal products from your diet is the single most powerful thing you can do as a consumer to ease the stress on our oceans. Fish have feelings too and suffer just as much as animals on factory farms. Not only that, fish are fed to pigs, chickens — even other fish in fish farms — in numbers that are wiping out ocean ecosystems.
    2. Say NO to plastic bags
Every piece of plastic ever made still exists. There are approximately 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of the world's oceans. Think of the marine animals next time you shop.
    3. Step up for sharks
Don't support restaurants that serve Shark Fin Soup, and help end cruel shark netting and baiting in Australia by taking action here.
    4. Eat organic
It's better for you, and the planet. There are 146 dead zones identified in the world's oceans that are primarily caused by chemical fertilisers in run off.
    5. Spread the word
Share this story with your friends.

Pogey fish are small, hand size, and fast breeders and shools harvested in season, primarily for their oil. Magic ingredient in ant-rust paints like Rustoleum. Also used in cosmetics and as biodegradable nonpolluting storm oil. The fish meal made from the rest of the fish is used as livestock feed and fertilizer,
People do not eat the fish species used for fish meal.
Get your facts before condemning everything and outrageous claims that 90% of large fish are gone.
Nobody counted them before or now.
You count only on that nobody can DISPROVE your claims.
There exists NO WAY to count the fish in the sea.
Better luck counting total grains of sand on all the world's beaches, because at least they're accessible, and only a teeny tiny fraction of a percent area compared to the oceans..
But we do know anyone making such baseless claims is dishonest and manipulative and, BASELESS.

in this country live stock eat grain, I do not know of many that eat fish.

I think to say that 90 percent of fish are gone means you are a clairvoyant. This is contrary to many actual scientific studies I have seen. IOW, this is BS. most of the worlds species of animals are long gone, they have been gone long before there were any humans. That is just the natural course of nature.

Fish have feelings?!?!? Tell us, have you counseled these fish to learn this? fish are food, if not for humans than for everything else in the ocean. All fish, large and small, eventually get eaten by other fish and crustaceans. In fact, the fate of EVERY Living thing in the world is to get eaten by something else. THAT is the natural cycle of things. If fish are carnivores, why can not humans be too?

This is really crack pot thinking, someone completely devoid of a grasp of reality. And someone that has disowned being part of the human race. if you eat nothing but beans and rice you will develop serious heath complications, I tried being completely vegan for many years, and I was developing serious health deficiencies.

I eat animal protein 3 or 4 times a day now from fish, beef, poltry, pork, whey (along wit a lot of vegtables and some fruit). I lost 50 lbs, marginal obesity gone, pre-diabeties gone, leaky gut (from eating grain) gone, sleep apnea gone, along with a lot of other problems. I am not going back to eating beans and rice, it is very unhealthy diet that was killing me.

We've always known veggies are good for us, but a new study in the UK has revealed that more Brits are going meat-free than ever before!

According to the study by Mintel, a whopping 1 in 8 adults and 1 in 5 young people (aged 16 - 24) in the UK have taken animals off their plates, choosing instead to enjoy vegetarian and vegan meals. Millions more again are eating less meat.

And it's not only Britons reshaping their eating habits. Spaniard's too are embracing their greens, with the number of vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the country doubling in recent years. While Palitana, a city in India with a population pushing 200,000, recently became the world's first official vegetarian city.

Australia too is stepping up to the (veggie loaded) plate. In fact nearly 2 million Australians (1 in 12) have chosen to take animals off the menu entirely. And with the number of animal-friendly alternatives in supermarkets only growing, meat-free is now mainstream.

Why are so many people going meat-free?

With mounting evidence showing that going meat-free is a great choice for our own health and the health of the planet, many people are joining the likes of Al Gore, Ellen and Samuel L Jackson in embracing a plant-based diet.

But for many the decision to go meat-free comes down to something else — or rather someone else. Because animals are thinking feeling beings, and we can each make the choice to protect them from harm...

this is stupid and meaningless, as if this means it is a good idea? people in the UK, as well as the US are as obese as ever, also high rates of diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer, highest numbers ever. must because they are not eating enough meat.

<removed> propaganda has been spread in the USA for 60 years, so now we have the lowest level of meat consumption in history, Americans eat more grain and vegetables than ever before, and after 60 years we now have the highest level of heart disease, stroke, obesity and other illnesses that are preventable and cause by a bad diet. Americans at an average of almost 2 lbs of meat per day before WWII, heart disease, obesity and diabetes were rare. Colonial Americans ate up to 4 lbs of meat per day per person! And they were longer lived, stronger and larger than their British counterparts (one of the reasons the Americans won their independance, they were stronger, larger and better fed than the English).

<removed>, if human do not get enough animal protein they get fat, sick and die. it is only in starving third world, disease riddle, countries that people do not eat enough protein. It is stupid propaganda like yours that causes this death and mayhem, not to mention risking health care costs. too many families have lost their father due to poor diet choices, throwing the family into poverty. Stop the lies, and the propaganda. Humans have always been ominvors since the dawn of history, to change that means you risk your health.

Take it somewhere else. shut up and go away.

    Animals are thinking beings?
What's next? Animal suffrage? And then, plant suffrage. Even cockroaches will get to vote, eventually?
