The East Coast is subsiding, the water level is not rising. The West Coast is rising, the water level of the Pacific is not lowering.

Yes. Google it. There have been seismic research for many decades. Further, most people go to elementary school and learn in science class about the drifting of continents and how it creates mountain ranges. The dynamics of the phenomenon tilts continents. The West Coast is rising and has tall young mountain ranges (Rockies). The East Coast is subsiding and has low, old mountain ranges (Appalachians).

I guess a graph of fish catch vs fishing effort would be even more educational than the one showing the catch decline. Especially if that effort is increasing.

I guess a scheme to drain the Mediterranean, creating a great deal of new real estate, which was touted in the past, wouldn't get much of a hearing these days, what with the rise in ocean levels !

    Partially correct (1/2 point)
ME, MA, CN are rising due to isostatic rebound from the melting of the icesheets from 14K years ago, but not keeping up with global sea level rise.
NC, SC, FL subsiding because of see-saw effect of melting of northern glaciers
Chesapeake Bay area subsiding area subsiding due to consolidation of ancient meteor impact crater.
Coastal LA area subsiding due to extraction of oil, gas, and water.
    Incorrect (0 point)
    Partially correct (1/2 point)
Northern Washington is rising due to isostatic rebound from the melting of the icesheets from 14K years ago, but not keeping up with global sea level rise.
Some areas along the WA and OR coast are rising due to uplift by plate tectonic action.
    Southern CA is subsiding.
Correct. It is rising. (1 point)

    1/2 + 0 + 1/2 + 1 = 2 out of 4 points.
Not really a passing grade. You might want to consider summer school or after-school tutoring.

So, since 1950 the world population has almost tripled, the energy required to catch each fish has doubled, and while the size of the fish catch is 5 times what it was in 1950, the amount for each individual has only doubled.

While the human population is expected to keep growing, the productivity of the oceans are expected to plummet. As it is, the parent stocks are being decimated, and while the most desirable eating species have been heavily over fished even to virtual extinction, even the formally "trash fish" replacements are diminishing.

Yes, the Orange Roughy ( re-badged as "Sea Perch" in my part of the world) was never going to last, the age of the fish being as much as 100 years. And the taking of so-called "trash" fish to be processed into fish/prawn farm feed, is not a sustainable activity either, with increasing demand for seafood.

Miami has been sinking since the ice cap melted after the last ice age. The previously depressed Canadian shield has been slowly rising back to its pre-ice age level ever since.

Those 3% of scientific papers that deny climate change? A review found them all flawed | Quartz

Some skeptics have suggested that the authors of studies indicating that climate change is not real, not harmful, or not man-made are bravely standing up for the truth, like maverick thinkers of the past. According to a review published in the journal of Theoretical and Applied Climatology, researchers tried to replicate the results of those 3% of papers—a common way to test scientific studies—and found biased, faulty results.

“Every single one of those analyses had an error—in their assumptions, methodology, or analysis—that, when corrected, brought their results into line with the scientific consensus,” Hayhoe wrote in a Facebook post.

I write this from Tallahassee. Our house is expected to be under water soon, but only for a while. The Sun will be back and we will reclaim whatever is salvageable. I hope that the looters can swim or find Grace.

I think the trend in this thread is that popularity is equivalent to a confirmed fact. It is a common misconception. A single example is all it takes to disprove a theory, regardless of how many people believe in it.
