Climate change doesn't threaten sea turtles. People digging up their nests and robbing their eggs does. So does careless disregard for sea life by wanton disposal of fishing nets into the environment.

 

Sea turtle gender is influence by water temp. Warm water produces more females than males and reduces overall turtle populations.

Rising sea water temperature causes eutrophication. Already the Gulf of Mexico, Florida and The East coast are already heavily eutrophied. This will only get worse. The pollution caused by swamped coastal cities , eutrophication and beach destruction around turtle breeding and feeding zones will have an effect

 

More females mean more egg layers, unless they are monogamous, which I seriously doubt.

Well, whadaya know!?! 100 million years and counting, turtles have lived in much hotter climates and they are still here. Biggest threats are still nets and poaching.

I don't want to get into a p****** contest about which threats are the 'biggest.' But I'd like to point out that today's turtles aren't identical to turtles from 100 million years ago. They've had countless generations to slowly evolve and adapt as the climate changed around them, along with the rest of their environment. That doesn't automatically mean they can survive the abrupt changes happening today.....

 

They certainly can't survive being tangled up in a net like the one pictured above. I have seen the remains of manatees in similar attire.

 

I see many dead turtles. Plastic ingestion . They mistake plastic for food.


Climate change is just one more deadly turtle hazard.

 

This could be the cause of excess numbers of jellyfish.

 

Mild temperature...warm winters ...reduce polyp mortality and cause jellyfish blooms.
