You forgot the teeth gnashing! There is nothing like a good gnashing of teethes whenst thou est being smote.

I wish global warming would hurry up. It's minus 4'C outside, and the front door lock has frozen. At this rate I will be trapped inside until spring.

yes it is time consuming, but yes it NEEDS to be understood, that the real problem we all face on this earth is overpopulation....it has gone from 1 billion to over 7 billion in ONE lifetime. we are all seriously needing to understand this.

Sustainable Business | Media Even More Silent On Climate Change, NY Times Closes Desk

Even a year of record-breaking extreme weather - heat, drought, wildfires and Sandy - couldn't get the mainstream TV media to report on climate change, and that could get even worse with the NY Times closing its Environment Desk.

Coverage during 2012 - the warmest year on record in the US - hit bottom on Sunday news shows with less than 8 minutes spent on climate change. Coverage on nightly news rose a bit to just under an hour.

The Media Matters analysis also shows that coverage was biased. "Scientists were shut out of the debate while Republican politicians were given a platform to question the science." And Sunday shows didn't quote a single Democrat's position on climate change. The same imbalance was true of nightly news, but less dramatic.

That's right - not one scientist has been invited to discuss climate change on Sunday shows since 2009! …

The Energy Collective | Is Ethanol a Cost Effective Solution to Climate Change?

Ethanol has been strongly supported as a solution to U.S. energy security, and recently, reducing carbon emissions. Historic Government subsidies and blending mandates made ethanol one of the most successful renewable energy sources in the U.S. Although the Government subsidies expired a year ago, increased ethanol is now being advocated possibly as a part of the EPA’s developing climate policy. Is increased corn ethanol a reasonably economical solution to reducing future U.S. carbon emissions?…

Ethanol vs. Natural Gas Motor Fuels – Another viable alternative to petroleum gasoline and reduced carbon emissions is natural gas. Domestic natural gas production is increasing fairly rapidly, has become relatively inexpensive and generates significantly less carbon emissions then petroleum gasoline. These factors make natural gas an attractive alternative motor fuel. The overall WTW lifecycle fossil fuels consumption for natural gas is also much lower than petroleum gasoline. Comparing the natural gas WTW lifecycle to corn ethanol finds that natural gas has a WTT NEV 8-times greater than ethanol, and generates about 25% less WTW carbon emissions than conventional ethanol. In addition, the average natural gas cost is less than half of ethanol (Re. page 3, Table 2; gasoline equivalent gallons). These factors make natural gas possibly a much more superior alternative to displacing petroleum gasoline than corn ethanol.

In Conclusion – The majority of the energy available in conventional corn ethanol comes from fossil fuels consumed during the overall cultivation-production of this biofuel. Even if the RFA successfully persuades the EPA to adjust corn ethanol’s WTW lifecycle carbon emission balances, the generated carbon credits would still have a relatively high cost of about $500/MT. This carbon credit value is extremely expensive compared to natural gas, further efficiency upgrades, or other more cost effective Power and Transportation sectors carbon reduction strategies…

7 News (AU) | Fish in hot water as climate changes

The east coast of Australia is now considered one of the fastest warming areas in the region. The CSIRO says fish are moving south in search of cooler waters, and marine heatwaves like the recent one off Western Australia are likely to cause major damage to corals and fisheries…

"The background rate of ocean warming has been about 0.7 of a degree over the last 100 years," he said. "We've seen warming on the east coast of Australia a bit over 2 degrees in that same period of time. "And we expect that warming to continue for the next 40 to 50 years, so in about the year 2050 it'll be around 2 degrees warmer than it is today..."

"Overall another 45 fish species have moved into Tasmania's waters as a result of this warming - that's about a third to a quarter of the total fish in this region," Mr Hobday said. "We've also seen changes in inter-tidal animals - about 50 per cent of snails and limpets have moved further south in a 50-year period. "There's been coastal fish move south, a sea urchin has also moved further south. So we're seeing these changes through the ecosystem..."

As the oceans warm, corals also struggle. The Commonwealth says there were no records of bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef before 1979. Since then there have been at least nine episodes, of which three are considered major…

The Christian Science Monitor | Climate change alters ecosystems from Walden Pond to 'The Shack'

The findings, published online today (Jan. 16) in the journal PLoS ONE, show just how much climate change has altered ecosystems throughout the temperate areas of the United States. The study used 161-year-old data on flowering times from Henry David Thoreau's notebooks, as well as nearly 80-year-old data from the famous naturalist Aldo Leopold…

They found that as temperatures warmed over the last 161 years, the date of first blooms of the season crept forward, too — about 10 days earlier than when Thoreau first visited the site. During the record-breaking years of 2010 and 2012, flowering happened a full 20 to 21 days earlier. The average spring temperature at Walden Pond has increased about 6 degrees Fahrenheit (3.4 degrees Celsius) since Thoreau's time.

Similarly, at The Shack, as average spring temperatures rose about 3 degrees Fahrenheit (1.7 degrees Celsius) over the last eight decades, first flowering came a week early for the 23 species they studied. During the hottest years in the United States (2010 and 2012), flowering came 24 days earlier than in Leopold's time…

At some point, the climate will get too hot for plants to survive without evolving, but the fact that the plant flowering time is still changing in step with the temperature means they haven't hit that point yet, said David Inouye, a University of Maryland biologist who was not involved in the study.

The Guardian | Climate change and resource scarcity may wipe out pensions industry

How could actuarial professionals, tasked with risk management in the financial sector and beyond, have ignored the biggest risk humanity has ever faced?

It's difficult to get one's head around, but the simple fact is that actuaries have so far failed to even begin to factor into their financial models the impacts of climate change and resource scarcity, apart from a narrow focus in some insurance products related to direct weather impacts. This is despite the fact that the issues have been known about for years and the consequences could spell disaster for their companies, never mind the rest of society.

This failure, which could be construed as a dereliction of duty, has been rammed home by a new report, commissioned by more progressive forces within the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, which shows that global warming and its associated challenges could wipe out the entire defined benefits pensions industry within 30 years if we don't rapidly change course.

The Resource Constraints research report, published by the Global Sustainability Institute at Anglia Ruskin University, is blunt and worth quoting: "The more extreme scenarios modelled represent financial disaster; the assets of pension schemes will effectively be wiped out and pensions will be reduced to negligible levels..."

If we kept the corn out of our carburetor bowls and put it into our cereal bowls there would be less of a problem for boaters and landlubbers alike.

the rest of the world will just send all their guns to you for free and then you will thin the herd by yourselves as the US has always done..
Politicians the world over used to declare war to get the voters to take their eyes off the economy, in the US they just say 'gun control'.....

If they dont let the debt limit raise obama wont be remembered for creating more debt under his watch than all the other presidents added together ( that will take 3 more years from today)
He's getting very annoyed the Republicans are getting in the way of his plans lol...
