Actually, I'll be surprised if the archives of today can be read by anyone but specialists in a generation or two. One of the major headaches faced by government agencies today is trying to retrieve information that's stored in an obsolete format.

Since the schools are halting lessons in cursive writing, it won't be long till Americans will not be able to read the Declaration of Independence, which they already seem not to understand or appreciate.

Don't worry, there'll surely be Google Translate version that will be able to translate handwriting into sms vocabulary including smilies. Dated concepts like those found in the Declaration of Independence will be automatically corrected.

    dated concepts exactly.

Why translate some rubbish so out of touch with modern world.

Im sure Annie Oakley and Buffalo bill that wrote the Constitution would laugh out loud if they thought it was still being taken seriously after 300 years.

But then there is the bible too that also needs some serious translation and is never agreed upon and it too is now thought be be tongue in cheek by the majority.

The right to bare arms was meant as the country has the right to bare arms not every man in the street as that was at than time thought to be without question.

Any way Bin Obama is sorting that one shortly.

Through it in the garbage before it kills all of you.

Do you find it interesting when you hear how the rest of the world thinks of your incompetent governing of yourelves

I think we are in trouble when the right to "bare" arms is activated !

The constitution says (in cursive) "the right to BEAR arms", that is just carry them.

When you "BARE" them, its to take them out of hiding to use them.

Cursive may be dated, but spellcheckers are very "in"

Then again, you have to know which word to select from even if you have the knowledge of how to install a spellchecker for your favorite browser.

As ratified the 2nd amendment to the constitution says -

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"

Sounds fine. Raises these questions -

    1) do the arms-bearing individuals have any connection with a militia?
    2) is the militia regulated?
    3) is the militia formed in defense of state security?

If the answer to any one of these questions is "No" then the bearing of arms in question does not meet the expressed terms of the amendment. There is also the question of who is to regulate the militia - perhaps the constitution covers this elsewhere.

I'm sorry, but you're sounding even more ignorant than usual -- as shown by our own Supreme Court's rulings. The Constitution specifies that Congress is responsible for raising and funding military forces, and that the President shall be the Commander in Chief. It's absurd to pretend that the original authors then said, "oh yeah.... we better add an amendment saying those sailors and soldiers are allowed to carry weapons, or they'll have to fight bare-handed."

And considering that the vast majority of people in the world are probably almost as ignorant of what's really going on in this country as you are, no. I don't really give a damn what they think about our government. Democracy tends to be a noisy, messy process. If you want a government with no bickering and carrying on, I suggest you move to North Korea.

I also suggest you never watch sausage being made....

Now that our discussion of Global Warming has deteriorated into a discussion of firearms, how long do you think it will be before the moderator shuts this thread down? Would it be too much to ask those who are interested in this topic to start another thread rather than trash this one?
    Thanks

I know it may seem odd to some of you that anyone might still harbor doubts concerning global warming, but I do. During the winter of 06-07 we broke a local snowfall record that had stood for a 100 years with a total accumulation of 32'. Last year we broke that record by 4' for a total of 36'...thats 12' higher then my two story house. If it's too hot where you're living and you're looking for a change I'm sure I have a snow shovel that will fit your hands better then mine.

If that isn't enough to suggest that Al Gore might not have all the facts then you might like to read an article that popped up in my news this morning.
