I couldnt agree more
we gave them medicine to keep them alive ( we westerners feel good about that)and gave their ruthless masters billions in foreign aid but clearly not enough guns to cull them to a manageable level

Anyway I want 1 to 2m of sea level rise so I've turned on my air conditioner. As Tasmanian power is primarily hydroelectric, this won't have much effect but every little bit helps.

Good on the hydro. I don't understand why we stopped doing hydro. For fish we even removed some of our hydro dams

The Hill -- Sweeping intel report sounds alarm on climate threats

The federal National Intelligence Council’s Global Trends 2030” report issued Monday follows Defense Department analyses that have similarly called climate change an emerging security risk.

“Demand for food, water, and energy will grow by approximately 35, 40, and 50 percent respectively owing to an increase in the global population and the consumption patterns of an expanding middle class. Climate change will worsen the outlook for the availability of these critical resources,” the report states…

Climate change will also drive migration patterns, analysts say…

It also lists the possibility of much more rapid climate change among eight potential “black swan” events that could have the greatest “disruptive” effect…

It projects that the U.S. will remain the world’s biggest power but that no nation will dominate as the “unipolar moment” ends…

Do a revenue-neutral tax swap that reduces taxes on income and shifts the tax onto carbon dioxide, thereby attaching to fossil fuels an approximation of the cost of their negative externalities. [Note: Make sure to keep this revenue-neutral. You may have to add revenue elsewhere in a grand bargain, but the goal of this tax swap is the correction of a market distortion, not the raising of revenue.]

Eliminate all subsidies for all fuels, thereby correcting yet another market distortion called government failure.

Re-examine and streamline EPA regulations as we tax energy pollution, crafting a more logical approach to a cleaner environment that combines measurable outcomes with the transparent and accountable price signal from a carbon tax.

Sydney Morning Herald -- Sceptics cool on climate studies

The Global Carbon Project has released forecasts that the planet could warm by between 4 degrees and 6 degrees by the end of the century and Nature Climate Change on Monday published a study finding that warming is consistent with 1990 scientific forecasts.

South Australian senator Cory Bernardi, formerly Mr Abbott's parliamentary secretary, said: ''I do not think human activity causes climate change and I haven't seen anything that changes my view. I remain very sceptical about the alarmists' claims.''

Queensland senator Barnaby Joyce said the whole debate about whether humans were causing the climate to change was ''indulgent and irrelevant''…

West Australian backbencher Dennis Jensen, who had read the recent scientific literature, said he interpreted the findings in different ways and believed climate scepticism within the Coalition was increasing…

Tasmania senator David Bushby said he remained a true ''sceptic''. ''I know eminent scientists have one view but I know other eminent scientists - usually ones who have retired and are no longer reliant on government grants - have a totally different view,'' he said.

… However, complexity alone does not explain why acceptance of the science decreases among Republicans with level of education as well as with their self-reported knowledge: Whereas Democrats who believe they understand global warming better also are more likely to believe that it poses a threat in their lifetimes, among Republicans by contrast, increased belief in understanding global warming is associated with decreased perception of its severity.

What motivates people to reject facts that are so strongly supported by evidence? And why are Republicans more likely to engage in such “denial” than Democrats…?

To begin with, it must be realized that this has nothing to do with the particularities of American politics or some idiosyncratic aspect of the Republican Party itself…

Numerous studies converge onto the conclusion that there is a strong correlation between a person's endorsement of unregulated free markets as the solution to society's needs on the one hand, and rejection of climate science on the other…

What do markets have to do with geophysics?

The answer is that global warming, like many other environmental problems, poses a potential threat to laissez-faire business. If emissions must be cut, then markets must be regulated or at least “nudged” towards alternative sources of energy—and any possibility of regulation is considered a threat to the very essence of their worldview by those for whom the free market is sacrosanct…

Does this mean that free-market economies are incompatible with action on climate change? Does this mean that irreconcilable differences remain between action on climate change and people with a “free-market” worldview?

Fortunately, the answer is “no” to both questions…

And we are shipping as much coal as we can to help remove the tag ( let someone else win for a change) that Australians are polluters well I guess we do make .0000000000000055% of the worlds pollution

I respect anyone who makes resolutions to improve their own behavior.
When the intent is to force other people to change their ways to suit your philosophy, then it's a control issue. An obvious political agenda.
The climate warmists had to change their motto to climate change, because their predictions weren't accurate. So, now they claim any change at all is justification for social engineering?
The econuts push their eco religion and control agenda.
I resist. If necessary, I will fight.

-I suppose that when the good citizens of Paris and London were ordered to stop dumping their slops into the street from upper story windows, they complained bitterly about social engineering and the infringement on their right to take a crap in their own bedrooms....

-Any government spends a good deal of energy forcing people to change their ways, for the benefit and safety of their neighbors. That's one of its major functions.

-Your claim that 'climate warmists' started using the term climate change because warming wasn't happening is inaccurate, bizarre, and tinged with paranoia.

-You'll 'fight'? Oh dear.... What are you gonna do? Erect flaming barricades in the middle of the street and man them with guns, to fend off a carbon cap and trade bill from Congress?

If you honestly believe that scientists who say climate change is real are just eco-nuts and power-hungry control freaks, you have issues.

Don't let the urgent displace the important...
