I just thought it some form of ironic that I just gave someone some rep for taking a cheap shot based on his political views ( which are his to have regardless of how bassackwards they are ) and blammo I get tagged for my joking around.

    oh
that statistically insignificant drop in temps I mentioned
has already proven itself to be exactly that

as expected it smooths out to an average increase over the time interval of the five year average

    so there
    ha
three point shot plus the foul

    vindicated

I had a little oceanography in school and honestly don't remember...What are they called - Bosco waves? I have heard of them since and have considered myself somewhat in the know on internal waves, in general. My point was that they just proved the big waves!

Hoyt, every time I try to give or take away, it tells me "You need to spread some points around". I don't know how you do it. Is it just based upon how many times you give rep?

they knew about Rossby waves ages ago, they just didn't have a great way to measure them. what they discovered since they have been able to measure them more accurately is that they move faster than predicted. But the predictions are based on water density parameters that have since changed with the increase in temp and the decrease in salinity of surface waters in some areas. They may have to either update the parameters or just estimate an average speed in this present base period and then begin tracking with that calibrated system from there.

This interesting article discusses the effects of Gulf Stream stoppage due to BP oil spill. http://www.infiniteunknown.net/2010...t-changed-the-north-atlantic-current-is-gone/

"It is a university level physics experiment to use a tub of cool water and inject a colored stream of warm water into it. You can see the boundary layers of the warm water stream. If you add oil to the tub it breaks down the boundary layers of the warm water stream and effectively destroys the current vorticity . This is what is happening in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Atlantic Ocean."

This is not Climate Shift caused bla bla but could result in a climate shift.

I'll look at those things in a sec, Hoyt.
"water density parameters that have since changed" - NOOO! They havn't changed - they didn't know what they were relative to today. The studies have not been homogenous! You (and they) are blowin smoke (they, for political or job security purposes. You are being duped)!

The Miami EDU study you cited is a difficult read for me. I do much better with concepts than names and dates of other studies... Which reminds me. If we keep it interesting even if somewhat combative, the entire thing becomes a valuable learning tool. I'll share with you, two cites I consider perhaps the most important on the internet.

This guy is fantastic: http://www.khanacademy.org/ It's FREE. Give it a half hour a day, even when you can't afford the time. Start at the beginning so you are not lost by the time you get to differential equations.

Here it is - A series of lectures from the greatest education institution on Earth...FREE: http://ocw.mit.edu/resources/res-18-005-highlights-of-calculus-spring-2010/ MIT education (almost) for free. Give this one a half hour a day, too. Expose your kids to it instead of.... I can't even think of a name of one... a reality TV show. By the time the kids are eighteen, we have a great country again. I guarantee it. This is health care.
Never tell me that an education is expensive. A diploma from some institution may be expensive but education is availailable for damned near free (even people on public dole have internet)

something I sometimes forget on these threads is science should be simple clear and easy for everyone to understand. Often scientists get so wrapped up in there special language and process that they forget that the purpose of science is to explain to the non scientist the workings of our world. Its a privilege that goes with the turf and a responsibility that accompanies the knowledge. Science isn't much good unless it gets a message across. In this case, that message is that we need to not only stop altering the chemistry of the atmosphere but bring it back to the place it was before we began the industrial revolution.

    Click FAQ
The item at the bottom of the page is:- How does the User Reputation System Work?
At the bottom of that page is

    Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again?
    25

You could give me rep as one of the 25 :D

There, I got you. I guess I should read the instructions on the heal... I don't think I have given 25 total in the couple of years I have been on this forum. I would have thought that one should save the rep, good or bad, for things about which he feels strongly. The system encourages throwing it around, I guess. I've definately only given positive about eight times. Here, The system wants us to use it a lot...I'll hit everybody here.
