Great to see some of the little fellas, hopefully price will drop if sales volume takes off.

The Vision guys might have struggled? The press info is all 2007/2008, so perhaps they couldn't get backing or the extended testing turned up some problems. A large diameter/high thrust prop version might be better, although a gearcase/lower unit to handle the torque might take some building.

I can relate, I'm a cheap bastad myself but if the fuels free for the diesel then it makes up fast for the extra cost. It may not hold true for most but I make and blend my own fuel out of waste oils so for me its super cheap to run a diesel.

I've been drawing up belt drive designs for a lower end conversion, I could marry a 10hp diesel to an old lower end unit and have my neutral and reverse already in it. Just need to get my drive hooked up.

few belts and shafts later and it even still flips up.

A bit too small (I would like 20 to 30hp) and a 15inch propeller rotating at 1000 to 1200 rpm max...

The 3 Litre engine at highest level (300hp equivalent) at 11 gallons per hour (42 litres/hour) - more than I need or could use !!! and 300 hp is pushing credibility a bit!

    Sabah,
A nice finds, but weight to power, size of propeller, rotational speed of propeller ?? ... Getting close...
My ideal DIESEL/Veg-oil fuelled OB is:
    - alloy-block 3 or 4 cylinder/piston,
    - direct-individual-injection, self-priming,
    - non-electronic, (not common rail),
    - electric start & tilt, (able to lift engine and leg clear of the water - as per Yanmar at 179mm or 7.05 inches below top of transom)
    - 27hp at 3000rpm (even 4500rpm is acceptable),
    - geared to give 1000 to 1200 rpm MAXIMUM at the 15 inch propeller,
    - turbo-charging may be considered only with
    - propeller hub exhaust
    - Dry sump and external sump option (plenty of lubricating oil and simple to change the oil and engine mounted oil filter), and
    - weighing less than 125kg dry weight (which is more than the 27hp Yanmar)...

http://www.megoutboard.com/owner_info.php their maths is LOUSY at their volume and price per annum fuel = $38500......... not the 35000 claimed..... for the 300hp version

    Boston,
Be careful there are not many lower ends (in outboards) that can handle a big propeller diameter... Check that out first before you get too carried away with engineering mods....

The Bongaree (bribie Island) phone number, 07 5497 5500, gets a lass answering "NEUTRIMETICS", then she redirects, and nothing  So I am not sure they are fully operational if at-all...

My intention was to do some work on the boat today but with the wind around 25 knots I decided not to launch the "rubber duckie", load up with stuff to take out to the boat and row the the 450 odd meters and back in such wind....

Such endeavours will, of necessity, have to wait for balmier times....

No Mast, - Boat needs Au$40K or so to put one up and pay for the sails... Only man power on the rubber-duckey, and rowing is about the only strenuous exercise I get, but pulling against a 25 knot wind and sea is not my idea of fun and life is supposed to be "ALL FUN".... I am a fairly good sailing type sailor... I thought of trying to send you some of my water, but I do not want to damage the computers with my surplus flow...

yah I like the room, looks like my elbows would be safe.

Oh and ya gotta get some floor coverings on that thing. Even if they are just no skid. It will bond better if you don't have footsteps all over the floor first.. Just an idea, looks great by the way.

hey did that thing come with storm shutters for the windows ?

    Hi Bos,
That is the finish... Epoxy, then flowcoat... - - - Literally, when I clean after a dirty day of walking through mud at low tide looking for delish crabs caught in pots or fishing and cleaning and whatever - hit the lot with a hosing down, then pump out, then the last bits with a wet vacuum cleaner and all is spotlessly clean...

I recall that attitude when Bertram were selling the GRP build against the traditional wood - "come back from a days fishing, wash down and all is done...." - - - On CNO, the bridge-deck is self draining and the downstairs hulls are easy to clean up... Having oiled teak or polished wood panels make for lots of work in maintenance of the bright-work and a good paint finish with the same colour makes life lots easier and more time to enjoy doing fun things that the boat is designed to do...
