I have a boat that has stanchion bases through bolted to the deck. I'm thinking of relocating them to the inside face of the bulkwark. The bulkwark is hollow, neccesitating internal blocking to support these stanchions. In several of the locations, I cannot acces the bulkwark interior without removing significant portions of the interior cabinetry. Would the stanchion mounting be strong enough if I drilled oversized holes and slipped a bronze tube over the bolt, then backed up the entire assembly with a bronze plate on the outboard side?
