"Sheep dip", Hell Bergalia your not telling me you drink that stuff! Rot's yer socks as I remember - but as an ex lowerdecker (Royal & Merchant) as the man said we'd drink anything (with alcohol in it - surgical spirit livens up a punch no end! makes you blind too if your not careful! Oh the things a young sailor would get up to

After I crawled up through the hawsehole I became slightly more refined - put orange juice in the bloody stuff! But by the time I'd reached Mate booze had become bad news! So we went back to the days of our youth and drank what the lads did (hopefully without 'em knowing)

Ah Walrus, but you bring back many a memory. With regards the surgical spirit - you'll notice my picture shows only one eye...say no more...
But I do remember one exotic evening spent at a house in Bearsden (Glasgow way) when I was tempted to sample the 'local' brew. A jar of milk with the old town coal gas blown through it, and a slice of toast floating on the surface to absorb the impurities. It was the cloudy liquid at the base which formed the drink.
Having experienced a glass of that - I recommend 'Brasso' as a preferable tipple... :p

Too true Bergalia, you noticed! so t'was you lurking behind the table down Boogy Street way might have guessed! (national characteristic I believe - "to lurk" ancient Scottish custom brought about by the lack of eeeeeeee's (e numbers) in your whiskey!)

By all that is holy you two are going in for a right good baking if you keep this up! :) It is nice to read about the old country folk we left behind. One day in the not too distant future a boat biult by me will tie up at a dock in Scotland and I and my crazy Irish wife will go and see the places my family sprang from. I just hope that there will be a little of the nectar left for a dry salted old fart. You guys are topnotch!

 Us Yanks use Sterno(tm) and strain it through bread - it's called "Squeeze". Both are available at many stores.
