    The SNAME publication "Journal of Sailing Technology" is open access (papers are free to download), www.onepetro.org/JST

    My paper on composite sailing yacht construction is the most recent addition to the 2022 volume, but there are a lot of more interesting papers.

    The type of composite construction discussed is wood shell plating over metal framing.

    This was a traditional method prior to WWII, but CAD/CAM, modern adhesives, engineered wood products, aluminum alloys, even arc welding have been developed since and greatly reduce the cost of this method, so one-off or limited run production is feasible (since the costly mold for fiberglass construction isn't needed).

    This might also be feasible for home construction of even a kit. (Maybe IKEA will start offering boats.)
