You can believe what ever you want !!

From the time I first left school and started working in a ford automotive spare parts department I was sort after and asked to come and work at other garages around town !! when I gave that job up after becoming a parts manager at a early age and moved into the boating /fibre glassing industry same thing, used to get asked to come work for us !!!
When I had enough of the crap in the glassing and boating industry and get sick of listening to all the lies and bull etc was time to move on for a while so I learned another trade !! Wood flooring !! wasn't long before I became self employed and had work In the most expensive houses in the city booked for weeks in advance so I would swap between the two jobs from time to time !!, Trouble was the phone never stopped ringing because like the glassing industry I always gave both my jobs 110% of what I had to give all the time .
I am very proud of the fact work always came looking for me I hardly never had to think about looking for work and it hasn't really ever changed at all even after all these years !!
Have you ever been in that situation ??
Its followed me where ever I gone , now just one week back in nz on a holiday and people are ringing asking me to come back to work again !!
I have been fortunate to simply walk away from really big well paid jobs because of a gut feeling that I have trusted always and has always been the right choice !! because some companies have shut there doors a short time later!!
Right at this moment I have my foot in the door of a dream job that will be my last one to work at before I hang up my tools and say no more Thank you ,By then I should be 72 !!
I had a interesting life and filled over 1000 pages of writing my own life story, and its by no means over yet !! have asked my eldest daughter to write the last few pages to THE END !! :D:p:p

So, who paid the bills while you were out of a job? In my life, and that of millions of other workers there is no-one to pay for them. Therefore, bad working conditions is what we have to put up with in order to take care of our families. By the way, in spite of what professional athletes claim on TV interviews, it is not possible to give 110%. 100% is the most you can.

Well, I'm surprised. I thought you had put over 1000 pages of your life story on this forum alone. Maybe it just seems like that.

Having spent just 30 years in the industry im a mere youngster! However i always looked at safety as self presevation, I started out at Thames marine a busy factory that built Snapdragon & Mirage yachts, they were good employers but health & safety was rather sporadic.
The mouldings trimmer Pat was a huge Pole who had fought in ww2 the only mask he would wear was a flimsy paper one. He was given a Racal airstream helmet powered respirator but would not wear it.
He died of silicosis a few years later.
Once i went on my own i invested in my own Airstream helmet, it was not cheap but works. Im now on my third one.
On a sub contract job at Prouts some of the lads took the piss because i wore it most of the time i was on the factory floor. I just replied "you will look funny wearing an iron lung!"
If you are self employed its up to you.
Trouble is there are so many hazards its hard to keep up!

Thinking way ahead gives you that extra 10% !!some dont even think at all !!

110% what are you thinking about while you working ??? probably only the job and what's in front of you ?? and that's all !!and you probably only using one hand as well !!
its is possible to think of more than just one thing !!, like whats the next step or even a few steps ahead of what your body is actually doing ,some jobs its possible to use both hands at the same not just one !! this is where the extra 10% comes from .
Glassing is so simple and easy you really don't have to think about what you are actually doing your mind can be on other things ( work associated) !! Wooden flooring is the same, start one side and work to the other !! or on a sports floor of 400 plus metres start in the middle and work both ways!! . why because of the length of the floor you need to do the least amount of moving like walking so you spread all you planks to convenient locations throughout the room and you have a saw at each end of the room because its only ends you are cutting . to speed the whole process even further you lay maybe 4 to 6 rows at a time simultaneously so the off cuts off the end you heading for are the start planks for the rows on the other side !
Glassing the same laying 2 or 3 rows of glass simultaneously and working towards the aft end of the hull (why do you work from bow to stern and keel to chine ??) .
my working life has been about doing things the easiest , simplest ,quickest way possible !! have worked with really clever people over the years and each one has planted ideas that I have latched onto because there ideas really worked .try making swimming pools and really big storage tanks and places where you are laying vast amounts of materials really quickly , you have to be thinking way ahead of what you are actually doing at the time or you dragging the chain and the job takes way to long !!
Also its better to get paid for work done than hours spent doing the work !! do you get what I just said ??
Flooring I only spent maybe 6 hours on the job and most times would only take 3 to 4 days to complete and be gone from a 4 to 7 day job quoted for !! only ever had one builder ***** that at the rate of work I was doing would be finished in half the time I said so my hourly rate was unacceptable high ,so the last part I used just 100% of my brain and spread the work to finish on his time !!! he was smiling as he handed me the money for work done and completed right to the last minute !! :D:p;)

A man after my own heart !!

Most Companies don't really care about the people that work for them specially at floor level so when one falls there's another dozen standing in line to fill that vacant spot ,so why worry !!.
But when you become self employed its then you do something about your own situation ! join the club !! there aren't many of us still standing !!
Like I said if the situation is not suitable health wise pack up and move on and live to ride another day or two !!.
I have no regrets what so ever for walking away from the places I went from .
Noticeably these places don't exist any more and have closed down usually not long after leaving and in a high percentage of cases the last guys to stay got shafted by the company and ended up loosing out on money for what ever reason . :D:p

I have always set my own standard for saftey as government and trade unions and like organisations make one Rule to suit all. and are always years behind in making them.

I worked for the World`s biggest dairy giant mostly making Infant and Baby Formular and you would not believe just what went on and no responsibility accepted. We could not find what was claimed to have been added to the product after the heat processing.

If I had been a worker in a Chinese factory I would have been shot for defending the product`s integrity and Health and Safety commonsense. I cost the coumpany many thousands of dollars refusing to accept bad standards and finished products.
The only thing that saved me from dismissal was that I was an Executive of the Dairy Workers Union and that they knew thay I was always right ( I could not afford to make any mistakes) The company just did not want know about worker saftey or anything that may have a cost.
The Baby and Infant food is big business here now and has high regard World wide but do not believe such tales as New Zealand is just in for the profit like everyone else.
Do you believe it is possible to create a replacement for Human milk which has taken millions of years to get right?.Not on your life our product is only good to use as a last resort when nothing alse is available.

Tunnels: one hand is 50%, two hands is 100%. 110% must mean you are also using some other appendage to help you sand.

Sour grapes are used to make sweet wine !

If you keep thinking negative all the time sooner or later its how you see everything in your life !

The dawn is a brand new day untouched ,greet the world with a smile and be happy just to be alive !

I laid every kind of flooring products that were available on the market including laminate from Poland that was a special parquet in combination with a 2 planked boarder round the outside that wasi told it couldn't be done .two big rooms including a hallway kitchen and dinning area . almost got floor of the month award but came a close second !!
planks stuck down and sanded really is a waste of time ! its better to use floating solid pre finished bamboo floors or prefinished solid timbers ,Was told the bamboo couldn't be floated but did possibly 100 floors of all types of places houses ,flats, stairs, offices ,hallways etc etc using a floating method of my own that i perfected !! eventually other companies copied and began doing the same and is still used to this day after 10 years no one has come up with a better way !:D

Thinking positive is mostly used as an excuse to not face the truth. Take the Green approach to every problem. Take the denial of the facts of Global warming.
